My poor dad just got his new laptop from Dell and it operates on Vista and he can't get used to it at all! I tried to figure it out and it was a pain in the butt. But I am a creature of habit and don't adapt to change well. I am sure it is a superior system for those who are willing to learn it though!

If you adapt well to change and learn new computer programs relatively easily, you should be okay. I bought a new laptop last month, and I have to say that I really don't like it. I also really hate the newest version of IE too & I had to get used to both of them at once. But, it took me forever to get used to Window's XP too. I still prefer Windows 98! LOL. I guess I just don't see the point. I mean, really, what was wrong with XP?!?!? The biggest thing I have a problem with in Vista is that I don't feel like I have easy enough access to my "stuff." In an effort to make the system more user friendly, I think they dumbed it down a little too much. I like being able to click "my computer" to get to just about everything on my computer. On Vista, the "My Computer" icon isn't even there. You have to go through the start menu for just about everything. Almost everything on my desktop is garbage ("click here for our free internet" type stuff) that I would usually delete from my computer immediately after I buy it. Unfortunately, though, I haven't been able to get rid of all of it yet. They don't show up under add/remove programs. I did look for computers with XP while I was shopping. I thought that I wouldn't have much trouble, since Vista had just been released. Boy was I wrong, there were only a few computers left with XP, and they were MUCH more expensive. |

Stick XP if you can! Friends of ours just bought a Gateway with Vista. They are having such problems with "trying" to get internet, since Gateway and Best Buy are telling them it's just a gliche in the Vista program and it's not compatible at this time. Geek Squad was out and everything. Their returning it this weekend and I can't blame'em!

I have it, only problems I've had so far: didn't fully install software for my camera and COULD NOT get it to cancel, so I had this "Not Responding" window on my computer until I rebooted, and on the Start Menu, sometimes the submenu doesn't open immediately and I end up double-clicking which makes me click something I didn't want. Other than that, it's been fine and I'm getting used to it.

I would say for now it's a bust! Wait a year or two for them to work out the kinks. Friend of mine worked for microsoft & said there are some bugs so Xp is by far superior right now.
