Need to vent... son's teacher

My son is a junior in high school this year. He is mildly autistic and in regular education classes. I keep e-mailing back and forth with his case manager about his school work. We just moved here in December so this is a new school system for us. What I was irritated with was she e-mails me constantly. Today she e-mailed me and said that my son did indeed turn in the work he told me about yesterday. Her comment is that he isn't making A's and B's right now. Well whoopee dooo!! I don't expect those grades from my son. She also told me she was trying to get him to do assignments ahead of time before they are due. I was kind of MAD about the whole thing. SHe was wanting me to with hold computer time from my son for him to get assignments done. I was all for that if he needed to get the work done, but now I find out that wasn't the case!!! I am totally frustrated with this whole situation!!! My son is in regular classes because special ed is WAY too easy for him!!! It is better for him to make a C or D in a regular class that challenges him than to breeze through a special ed class and make all A's. What is the deal with the schools????? Any suggestions or help is appreciated!!!

My first question would be why is she having him do work ahead of the other students. I could see maybe assigning it early and giving him extra time. I think that it is excellent that he is regular classes I too have a son with aspergers and totally agree with you that it is better to get c's and d's instead of special ed classes. I would not keep the computer away from him. I think that if that is his outlet he deserves that. We all deserve a break from life and so does he. He should not have to do an assignment ahead of time and I would not let him.
Keep on fighting your fighting the right fight.

Our school district has inclusion classes for the students that are inbetween regular and special ed classes. It's kind of a middle of the road class. Wish ya'll had that option.

Stay Pro-active in his education. Also, get both sides of the situation. Maybe do a conference with you, your son, and the teacher.

Good Luck.

Why would he have to turn in his work earlier than anyone else? Does she have a valid reason for requesting this?

Maybe she just thinks he's up to the challenge and that he is capable of getting A's & B's if he has some lead time on the assignments.
