I read on another message board that Simon cowell said if sanja (sp?) wins this whole thing he will quit. So howard stern told everyone to make sure they vote to keep sanjah in. They really need to change this voting thing. There is some really talented people in this competition and he is not one of them! Simon is one of the honest judges and if he isn't telling everyone how wonderful they are they hate him for it. Paula thinks everyone is wonderful, well they arn't and this whole thing is just so unfair.

I disagree with your comment on Paula. I don't think that she thinks everyone is wonderful, it's pretty clear who she thinks is outstanding. She just won't be nasty and will try to find something positive to say about the person. You have to read between the lines a little. Saying that someone is a good soul is her way of saying "but can't carry a tune to save his soul"....LOL

I think they should do it like the other shows. Take the bottom 3 and have them sing again to save themselves. Then either let the judges or the audience vote one of them off. This way you don't have all these people trying to keep the worst contestant in until the end.

Uh no that is not what she is saying. When she simply gets upset cause simon says someone is awful and says oh no they are not and says that she thought they did well is not saying someone is terrible. Not so much this season so far, but in the past yes she has always told everyone they are great when they really was not.

My family and I laugh when Paula tells someone how nice they are looking tonight. Most of the time she says that because she doesnt want to tell them they do not sing well.

Well, I stopped watching it after the final 12 were picked. I watched it religiously last year. IMO, there's only a few that actually deserve to be in the final 12. So I have better things to do this year than waste my time watching. I have to agree with Simon pretty much all the time. He's the only one who will actually tell these kids what needs to be done to improve themselves. If they'd listen to him instead of crying about it, maybe they'd do better. As far as Paula, I think the little feud between Simon and Paula is all part of the show. I actually think Paula has the hots for him!! It's all just part of the show. I do think they need to do something different as far as voting goes. This year definitely shows that!!

My take was that much of the time she was disagreeing with the way Simon said it, not what he said. And like the previous poster wrote, when she mentions something nice about them, but totally unrelated to the singing competition, that is her style of giving a thumbs-down.

I'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

They need to do it like the Grease reality show. The bottom two men and the bottom two women have to sing and the JUDGES decide who to keep and who to go. I assume it's that way on this show because there is a lot of money involved in putting the show on Broadway and the producers don't want the wrong people chosen. Makes a lot of sense though.

This is my first time watching American Idol. Every week I am having an ABSOLUTE FIT because Sanjaya is still there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMHO, he is a VERY mediocre singer and I'm not really even sure how in the heck he made it to the top 24. I bet those judges are so very sorry they kept him on now.

After last night, I am really unsure as to who will be eliminated tonight. Please tell me that it would be impossible for Sanjaya to go much further. He really sucks!!!!!!!!!

Well, at least there is some sort of explanation for why he is still there. Just one more reason for me to dislike Howard!! It nearly makes me sick having to watch that young boy sing each week because he is so terrible. Sad thing is that he actually thinks that he is good since he continues not to get voted off. Lord, I hope tonight is the end of his journey.

I told my husband if ANYONE other than the Bebop gets voted off tonight I'm NOT watching it any more ( Meaning if sanjaya stays and any another good singer ( Like Sundance I really liked him )goes thats IT for me. yikes. I didn't think before coming in here. Blah now I won't really enjoy the show as much.

Well, I think Simon is RUDE, BUT I also generally agree with him on his critiques of the SINGING (the superficial appearance/weight/manner of dress thing is a different story---) but as much as I agree with his ratings of the singers, I disagree with the way and manner in which he presents his criticisms. I also think that Randy, to a degree, and Paula even more, this year, are being more critical. Paula experssed disappointment with many of the singers last night.....yes, while still telling them how gorgeous they look.

I do think that maybe the voting should follow more along the lines of Dancing with the Stars where the call=in votes count for 50 percent but then the other 50 percent comes from the qualified judges.

And, i was very disappointed to see Phil in the bottom 3, although not surprised to see Brandon there since he forgot some words (as did 2 pr 3 other contestants last night). However, Sanjaya needs to be gone and I was surprised he stayed longer than Brandon. I liked Brandon, he had a diferent tone and style and actually could sing....something Sanjaya cannot in all good faith and with a straight face say......but that is just my never to be humble opinion sticking it's ugly head out for a minute....

Sanjaya should have been gone weeks ago, my DH threw a bowl of caramel corn at the TV when Sanjaya was told he was safe. I am flabbergasted at how much talent this season got voted off and should have been in the top 12.

I think its going to be the Melinda and Lakisha show-down at the end and the voting will be just as close as it was with CLay and Rueben

I was very surprised that Phil was in the bottom 3; he did a terrific job with his Diana Ross song. I thought he was the strongest of the males this week. I think his appearance may affect his popularity somewhat. The eyes, brows, and ears are a little much all together.

Brandon just not seem to be living up to his potential. Dang, that kid could smile though.

Bottom line is I expect there will be more boys than girls going home in the next couple of weeks. They really are not performing well. I also thought that they were not wise to ignore the advice of Diana Ross...

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I actually feel sorry for Sanjaya. No, he cannot sing well enough to be on American Idol but - he doesn't control the votes and he is taking so much personal abuse from everyone. Last night he looked totally dejected when the results were announced like he was thinking "oh great, another week of riducule for me".

I just don't like to see anyone, especially someone so young be almost persecuted for doing what he loves. He can't help the way the votes fall.

I honestly thought Sanjaya did pretty good. Sure, he shouldn't win but he wasn't *that* bad??? I must be missing something.

Jordin was 'pitchy' (in Randy's words!) but NONE of the judges had ever heard the song. It was the one from The Land Before Time movies... Yes, she sounded terrific but offkey.

When it comes down to it, it is pretty cut and dry who is doing the best (!) but it would be nice if the judges would quit saying that it is a Melinda/Lakisha race when there really are a few other women who sound great!

I honestly don't think it's going to be a Melinda / Lakisha race. They're the two most talented performers there and they'll both have wonderful careers after idol, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if neither one of them actually won. Look back over the years at some people who were absolutely wonderful but didn't win the competition. Just last year everyone thought it was going to be Chris Daughtry through to the end. Didn't happen. In the very first year I thought Tamyra Gray had it all over Kelly Clarkston, and Justin should've never made top two. And Jennifer Hudson... look where she is now. In a perfect world, the best two singers would be the last two. But in a perfect world Sanjaya wouldn't have made top 12 either. I hope it is Melinda and Lakisha in the end as it should be, but I'm not counting on it.

I completely agree with marsha1963! Every single year, somebody that should definitely be in the finals goes home way way too early. Chris Daughtery, Tamara Gray, Jennifer Hudson, Josh Gracian, etc....I totally think it should be Lakisha and Melinda in the end but history has proven that America doesn't vote that way.

A LOT of talent has been voted off. I can't believe Sabrina, Sundance, Brandon, and Stephanie all left so early!

This is the first year that I have watched the show! and I see it as flawed. I wonder how many really good singers stay away from the auditions because of it? Why expose yourself to this? A couple of the really good ones who have been voted off almost seem relieved (ie Brandon).

I, like others in this thread, wonder if a there will ever be a revamping of the voting system? Peter Noone, guest artist, hit the nail on the head when he said, "this is not a singing competition, it is a voting competition". Simon smirked.

All I know is this show has brought out my opinionated side! Makes for fun conversation between me and my buddies in my Yoga class.
