So if they build a new building in your town...what is it??

90% of the time it has been a bank here! How many banks do we need?? And they are not always branches of banks we already have, they are brand new never heard of banks! Seems very dumb to me and a waste of space! If it is a strip mall, there are atleast 3 cell phone places going into it! Seriously how many banks and cell phone stores do you need??? I used to get so excited about seeing new buildings, but now it's sad to see them cut down all the trees to put up a bank!

Well, some of the polititions in this town have really been having some serious brain farts. I guess they can't figure out a "worthwhile" way to spend tax payers money. They now think they are going to revitalize downtown by building a ball park downtown. We already "have" a ball park in a lot more accessable place than downtown. And it has plenty of parking.
Downtown now is nothing but attorny's offices and legel offices and paid parking lots.
All retail have moved out of downtown area many years ago. And as far as I'm concerned, they should stay where they are now. They have accessable parking and easy to get in and out of.

If retail were to return to downtown people would have to park in paid parking lots and walk for blocks to get to their destination. Taking a bus downtown is not fesible for most residents because most residential areas are not serviced by busses.
The whole thing is nonsense, replacing something we already have that is not that old.

Banks here would make much more sense than what is proposed here.

Condos Condos and more Condos...residential and commercial. We live in a beach community and soon there will be no ocean breeze because the 3 blocks just west of the ocean will be solid condos and hotels. Sure wish we had a 3 story restriction like a neighboring city!

Houses, houses and more houses! It is incredible the amount of new homes that have gone up since I moved here in 1990. Other than that, they have only put up one gas station since 1990? Across the river in PA we have gotten, Kmart, Lowes, Home Deopt, Staples, Walmart, none of which were here 17 years ago.

Yep, same here. DH and I were just talking about this last night. We had to go into town for a meeting, and I noticed a new building being started. I said it'll probably be another bank. There is no sign telling what it is, but I can almost guarantee it'll be one. I swear we have 10 banks in a 1 mile radius. Come on, is that really necessary??? There is one corner with 3 banks alone. And none of them are MY bank!

In my city, they are in the process of tearing down a low-income apartment complex to make way for a multi-million dollar hotel.

Why someone would want to build a multi-million dollar hotel in my city (population 17,000) is beyond my understanding?

And where the hotel is going to be, there is not a whole heckuva lot of parking spots. And it is right downtown, across from a grocery store.

Whatever.

The only thing I can think of is that we are the biggest city on the way to the beach (I live about 45 minutes from the coast) and they are hoping tourists will want to stop at the hotel or something.

A new Staduim for whatever team wants one!

Gov of PA just announced instead of reducing our property/schooltaxes we are spening an obscene amount of money to keep a hockey team in state.... They demanded a new staduim so they are getting one....so much for gambling here helping the little guy!

Too many banks, retirement homes (I swear at least 4 went up within 10 minutes of each other, the huge 4 floor ones too), cell phone stores and nail salons. We need more fast foods restaurants! Not many to choose from over here.

Right now we have a credit union and a new restaurant being built in our area. I'm excited because it's a branch of my credit union so I'll be able to drop off wrapped coins etc. w/out having to bug DH to do it.

ANOTHER Mexican restauarant! I live in a town of about 20,000 people and the 5th Mexican restaurant jsut recently opened! And I agree with the bank thing 0- just how many can one town use. We have 3 branches of the bank I use within 4 miles of each other - convenient yes, but come on.

We may have you all beat here in NW AZ. We live rurally and we are now getting things that are either over run in town or have been zoned against. So the list of business' in the last year are, 2 dollar stores, one smoke shop, one adult emporium superstore, one payday loan co. and a hock the title to your car place.
You can't imagine how it grates on me to have to give directions to my house by saying" turn left off the highway at the HUGE adult bookstore." But the dadgum thing dwarfs everything else is site so it is the most noticeable.
