Question Sick Cat?

My dads cat ( a stray that I got neutured and convinced my dad to keep about two years ago) seems sick
He has barely eaten for the last few days and barely used the bathroom, He is an inside cat
He threw up a few times earlier this week one time it was a little salmon colored? I am not sure If he got into something or what is going on

I am trying to convince my dad that he needs to go to the vet
How much is the "norm" for a vet visit and bloodwork and stool sample?
anyone have any ideas?
I have a cat but don't remember the costs
Thanks
Suzanne

Exclamation

The cat DEFINITELY needs to go to the vet if it is off its food.
I think vet cost vary dramatically from place to place, but you can call your local SPCA for recommendations...many cities have a low-cost/no-cost place for treatment.
PLEASE try to convince you father to take the cat...or take it yourself...so you are certain it is not suffering.

It is expensive, but you have no choice. A cat can go into kidney failure fairly quickly when not eating/drinking. I would estimate a diagnostic visit in my area with my vet at about $100.

Not so expensive here an appointment to start off would only cost me around $45.00. I would say call a few vets in your area and get some prices. But I think he definately has to go to the vet very soon. When you adopt it's your responsiblity to take care of them even when sick. There is a credit card most vet accept called Care Credit which is intrest free. So if money is a problem maybe he can apply for that. Good Luck.PS Usually the vets can help you apply for the credit card. They usually have the forms in their office.

I am so sorry about your dad's cat.
Did your vet inquire about the specific brand of cat food he has been eating?
There has been a recall on specific foods (dogs and cat) which are causing kidney failure.
It's just a thought.
Hope all is going better for your family,

Suzanne ~ I feel for you right now as I feel for several girls who have recently lost their cats to kidney failure. Each and every single solitary one of them has eaten the recalled cat food. Here is a link from my local TV station with the brands of re-called at foods and if you click on the brand they list UPC codes and the sell dates etc. Menu Foods Income Fund - Annual General Meeting My Mom took back 5 cases of Sophistacat today and took all 6 of the cats to the vet for a check-up.

Here is the link for the dog food also Menu Foods Income Fund - Annual General Meeting

I just noticed when I clocked from my local news station it took me direct to the manufacturers website with the recalls. I imagine there will be one heck of a lawsuit out of this.

My cat developed kidney failure at age 17. The MSPCA I took her to counseled me to have her undergo aggressive treatment at their facility for about 2 days. It was torture for her to be there with all the barking dogs in a cage in a strange place. The treatment cost me over $1000. I regret putting her through that. We had her put to sleep when she did not respond to the treatment. I now have a good relationship with a vet that I trust. Good luck with your Dad's kitty.

I had my cat put to sleep 2 years ago as she was suffering from kidney failure. She was not eating, but drinking tons of water. She was also very constipated and dehydrated. It was a hard decision, as she was not a super old cat (10 years old and I had her since she was a kitten) but in the end we decided to do the compassionate thing.

My thoughts are with you to make the appropriate decision for kitty and yourself.
