Interesting article: Online Anonymity Lets Users Gets Nasty

http://entertainment.tv.yahoo.com/ne...49268000p.html

"My guess is that if you went back to these people, a lot of them would have second thoughts." And if you asked them to add their name, as in a traditional letter to the editor? "They'd be embarrassed."

It was yet another example of how the Internet and the anonymity it affords has given a public stage to people's basest thoughts, ones that in earlier eras likely never would have traveled past the watercooler, the kitchen table or the next barstool.

Very true. I think alot of people say and do things on message boards that they would never say to someone's face. There's so much judgement. This is a good reminder that people behind user names have feelings too.

I don't know about you but I say what I mean and mean what I say. Having said that this takes me back to another post, that was posted a few days ago, by a member who was pretty sure someone or several someones had a different name on this site when they wanted to get nasty. I believe another member on that same post asked them if they would come forward and admit it, no one did. If you can't say it and have it attached to your name, maybe you should not say it at all!!! And I do mean that!

I have thought about the stuff in this article for years. People are nastier online than they would be in person. I don't understand what it is but I will again use the people in a car. People do things to others in car that they would not do in person. I think that is why the internet is sometimes bad and really bad for children.

They remind me of a bully.
Some nasty people like to push other people around.
Even if it is just verbally.

I am outspoken but I do not like to be mean and hurt people.

This thread reminds me of a dream I had recently.

weirdest thing

I had a DREAM recently that I would ESCAPE a store without finding a DEAL. Met a friend who wanted to DISH but I was in the middle of dinner eating KONEY DOGS. I became DIZZY, went to the dr but on the way there, ran into a TOOFLESS hag who was going into the DENTAL office...She said her name was KATE and asked my name. I said "YOUCANCALLMeAl"

Who insisted on chewing my ear off about her marital woes. Apparently she couldn't pay her dental bill, because she hadn't recieved her CHILD SUPPORT check....from her RUSSIAN ex. She went on to say "he didn't bother to CALL ME to tell me it was going to be late". Maybe it'll arrive by SUMMER....who knows, he can be so DICEY sometimes. It was triggered by some witch screaming at us in a DOLLAR GENERAL (or was that FAMILY DOLLAR)? That and too much PEPSI and CIGARETTES. She also had a dream that she was buried in hundreds of bottles of FREE KETCHUP. Her HUSBAND tried to rescue her, but he was far too SHORT to reach her in the mountain of free ketchup bottles.

and then we had to abandon our TRAILER in OHIO. No, we did not live in LORAIN, nor MAZELAN, but another little town. Too many HOMIES there though. We witnessed something in the middle of the night and had to move.
We moved to that state NORTH of the TRAILER. We had trouble when me moved, finding an acceptable school. So we HOME SCHOOLED.

I don't believe that I am just the queen of controversy...online and real life. I like to "stir up the pot" but I do not try to hurt anyone when I do it. I always like people to see the other side of the fence and often, I end up getting flamed or told I am wrong. I always wonder if the posters would be so hurtful and blunt in person

Wow, that is a weird dream. Maybe you need to lay off the Koolaid and go shopping(use a GC Of Course)

I think there is all sorts of people on the net just like in real life. There are bullys who have to have a say in everything and their way is the only "right" way.

There are people who use the internet to get people to feel sorry for them They tell sob stories and of course most people are honest and would never think that people lie and they take these people into their hearts and then boom they find out that the sob stories were fake.

There are good people out here on the net. I belong to a great board that started after YFB left. We are all very close and we just seem to click well together. We were burned in the beginning. It took awhile for us to get to the group we are now. We had members that told us one thing and then posted other places a different story. They have been there for members who have lost family, those that are dealing with the pressure of having a loved one in the military and overseas etc.

So yes there are Nasty people out there, there are liars, cheaters and those that have made up complete fantasys but i think it's worth it to have to deal with a few loonies to be able to enjoy and learn so much from others out there.
