| American Idol Fan on Hunger Strike Until Sanjaya Voted Off
Fan Stages Hunger Strike Until Sanjaya Voted Off 'Idol' LOS ANGELES (March 21, 2007) -- While many fans are left scratching their heads as to why Sanjaya Malakar is still singing on "American Idol," one fan is taking a stand against his road to "Idol" glory. A young lady who calls herself "J" on MySpace is staging a hunger strike until Sanjaya and his ever-changing locks are voted off of "Idol." "I have always been a big fan of American Idol, so like many people I was excited for the 6th season to start this year. Aside from the initial debacle with contestant Antonella Barba, season 6 was starting to look like it may be actually very good. However, there is one hinge in this broad spectrum of talent this year ... Sanjaya Malakar," J writes on her MySpace page. "We have no problems with Sanjaya personally...However, he does NOT belong on 'American Idol.'" "So until the day that Sanjaya is no longer American Idol, I will be going on a hunger strike. This means I will refuse to eat anything until American Idol voters wise up, and stop voting Sanjaya through each week," she states. "I you would like to see this hunger strike end, the only way to let this happen is to vote for anyone OTHER than Sanjaya after 'American Idol' on Tuesday." But with sites like VoteForTheWorst.com encouraging people to keep Sanjaya on the show, much to the dismay of judges and producers, J might not be eating for awhile. However, not all fans are taking J's stance, as anyone who watched Tuesday's "British Invasion" show knows, one young fan was brought to tears by Sanjaya's performance. And believe it or not, they weren't tears of angst over his less-than-stellar vocals. Thirteen-year-old Ashley Ferl got just about as much camera time as any "Idol" hopeful on Tuesday's show, as she was seen constantly balling in the audience during many of the night's performances. Her tears even got her on-stage at the end of the show for some hugs from the contestants. In an interview with LATimes.com, the Los Angeles-area teen said she and her mom scored tickets online to a dress rehearsal of "Idol," where much like the live show, the waterworks were apparently flowing. When "Idol" producers noticed this, they reportedly gave Ashley and her mom prime seats (right where the camera would see her, conveniently enough) to Tuesday's final taping. "This was the coolest thing ever," she told LATimes.com after the show. But if Sanjaya's run towards "Idol" superstardom should come to an end, Ashley will still be cheering on (and one would assume crying for) Melinda, Gina and Jordin, who she revealed are also her favorites. Silly, silly girl. Why all the hype? Honestly, with such hype concerning Sanjaya, people are making him much bigger than he is as a contestant on American Idol. Why didn't "Chicken Little" from last year get all this hype when he went much farther than anyone ever dreamed?

Hmmm I guess if this girl wants to be stupid then let her. Does she honestly believe that anyone cares if she starves herself over stupidity or not? I think some people take this stuff a little too serious, you almost wonder if this is more for the attention or if she has some type of obsessive behavior with the show. Oh well good luck whoever she is!! Anyone want to send her McD's gc's and other gc's to see how long she lasts??? I know I am mean.

heard about this on the radio the other day-the a.m. dj's were having a good time w/ it. One said that he had seen a pic of this girl-and if she was going on a starvation diet it was sure going to take a while. And now, ppl will be voting on Sanjaya just to spite her as well.

Dang, I can hardly last ONE day on a diet! Wish I had willpower like that. If the "Sanjaya Diet" works, she'll probably make a buck when she writes her tell-all memoirs. He's not that bad, he's not that good... He's mediocre which is why he will hopefully eventually get voted off. I don't see how in the world he could possibly win the whole thing except that people like this (and Howard Stern) are drawing attention to him. They are calling it the "Sanjaya Phenomenon" on MSN. |

Wow could you imagine your life revolving this much around American Idol? I don't like Sanjaya being on the show but I would not change my life till he was off. I bet Sanjaya is a nice guy. I kind of feel sorry for him...he is young and really he isn't a terrible singer. He sings better than me and is more brave than I and here are all these people making fun of him on national tv. It's not his fault that he has made it through it's the people who are laughing at him getting him to go on. If I were him I would take this try to enjoy this but I feel sorry for him. People are using him as the butt of their jokes. This votefortheworst is a nasty group of people and it really makes me sad.

I am just curious about his performance the other night-seems like he went over the top, just cuz he knew he wouldn't be voted off. Do you think he knows that the joke is on him? Poor guy-not his fault really. I think American Idol should offer him a cool sum of cash to come down w/ an "ailment" that he would have to leave the show. That way, we could get on to our contest and the good ppl won't be voted off-like he shoulda' been a very long time ago. He might actually win if this keeps up, and then I think American Idol will be the laughingstock of primetime tv.
