Hummingbird cam

This is really neat to me, because we don't seem to get hummingbirds this far south.

Boy, that feeder sure has a lot more activity than mine does in the summer. And during the time I was watching it seemed to be almost all female birds feeding. I only saw 2 or 3 males.
And I was suprised to see more than 1 bird at the feeder at the same time. My birds have always been stingy and who ever was feeding would chase other birds away until it was finished.

Thanks for the links. I do so enjoy watching them.

I can't wait until it's time to put my feeders out again. Depending on the weather, I'll put them out sometime mid or late April.

I just wish I could find a way to keep the bees away from the feeders. They really intimidate the birds.

Also a lot busier than my feeder. My birds are very territorial and are always chasing the others away.
Only one time, many years ago, did they seem to take turns, I think when there were babies. There were about EIGHT little ones taking turns feeding! How exciting that was!!

My feeder will go up end of April, beginning of May. Can't wait!!

This will sound strange but it works. Wipe the feeder docks with a bit of vegetable oil, just use a q-tip. The bees can't smell the nectar and won't bother with the feeder after a few buzzes. I also hang a yellow-jacket trap fairly far away from the feeders and that seems to keep them at bay.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try as soon as the feeders go out.

Last fall I did get a couple bee/wasp traps but it was too late in the season to use them. Hopefully they will occupy the bees.

Barb get your feeders out. The hummers have already arrived in Indiana. Check the map at Hummingbirds.net website.

I use petroleum jelly I get at the Dollar Store for a $1 and put it on the string or whatever you use to hang your feeder. Use a lot of jelly just at the top of the string where it connects to your hanger. When I refill feeder I use a paper towel and wipe the jelly off and put new on after I fill the feeder. I have lots of bees, but they don't bother my feeders. I have so many flower gardens that they visit the flowers instead of the feeders. I put up 3 feeders and use cup hooks to hold them. Just screw the hooks into the wood on my porch and the feeders are out of the rain and sunshine. I get a lot of hummers every year doing it this way. Here's a good link for questions on hummingbirds. I enjoy it cause they have links for the butterflies and other birds besides just hummers.,The Hummingbird Forum

Is this cam really live? Every time I go it seems like a recording. I even looked when it was dark here in Montana and it was total daylight on the cam.
