Gift for a 15-16YO girl?

We are visiting friends tomorrow and need a last minute gift for a 16YO girl (I think she's around 16YO, she maybe 15YO). They live in Los Angeles. I have a 7YO DD, so I know what girls her age like, but I have no idea what a teenage girl would like. What is the IN thing for a 16YO these days? Something under $20.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I'd get them a gift card. Kids this age value their independance and unless you know personal tastes they can be tricky to shop for. If you know personal tastes I know that in my household music is a pretty safe and easy bet or DVDs.

It's a good idea, except the elders will be giving them cash already. So I thought a present from us would be more appropriate.

Thanks for your idea.

You can get her a nice beach bag and fill it with a beach towel, beach ball, flip flops, sun lotion and lip gloss.

Another gift would be lotions, lip glosses, and /or bath products.

You can also pick up some jewelry like a silver charm bracelet with a charm or two.

I say cash or a gift card even if she gets the same from everybody else. That way you know she will use it and not stick it away in a drawer. My children 10, 11, and 20 all like to pick out things themselves.

I agree with the gift card. It may not seem great to you but believe me cash and gift cards are number one on every teen's gift list. They can buy whatever they want. Unless you know her well enough to know what she likes. Would you not feel better as a giver knowing she really likes and appreciates the gift? Who cares that others give her money. She will be happy and that is the reason to give a gift in the first place.

I agree that a gift card is best for a teenager that you don't know well, but if you want to bring a gift, I guess I'd suggest a thumb drive - maybe a cute or colorful one with a clip or something. I think most teens can find a use for a flash drive to transfer music, pictures, homework, etc.

Another possibility either with it or alone might be some magazines - Glamour, Jane, UsWeekly, etc....

What about something from Bath & Body Works. I know my co-workers 15yr DD loves their lotions and body sprays.

I agree with the gift cards or cash. Looking back to when I was that age, when I would get money for a gift, I would save it and get myself something I really wanted. I loved getting that one outfit or item I had been really wanting for a while.

If she has an Ipod- An Itunes gift card would be great. I have seen them $15 or $25. My DD just turned 15 and this is what she asked for.
