The number of deaths has risen to over 100 and there is atleast 471 kidney failures cases. They still haven't found out where the rat posion came from.

My sisters cat is really sick. She (the cat) was taken to a 24 hr. vet two nights ago and is now at a pet hospital. My sister caught, whatever it is, early when her cat didn't run to her when she got home from work. My sister cried when she told me yesterday.

My cat is at the hospital right now They had to put a catheter in him and pump fluids non- stop. He won't be coming home until Friday.

That makes me sick, so angry
My dads cat ate some of the food but his numbers went down, I took him to the vet on the 16th (hours before the recall) because he seemed sick and then again yesterday
His BUN went from 131 to 52
and CRE went from 6 to normal so thats good
I saved the vet bills and tainted food packets (they did say they would pay for the medical part)
doesn't help much though i don't think
I go to petconnection alot lately
if your cat is sick or has passed from the bad food you can enter it into their database (not 100%) but the deaths are over 2000

The news will NOT be more accurate, it was from rat poision on the wheat, the wheat comes from China! it is used as a thickening agent. Now they are saying there are OTHER poisions. and I agree it could be terrorists, how come all of a sudden people get food poision on cruise ships? and now this, they KNOW our animals are very important to the USA people, not like some of them where they eat dogs and others! sad, very sad!

I didn't realize it was over 2000 deaths. I wished the media would report more on this. I'm really wondering if this is going to go beyond wet food. If it is found in a product they used..I'm sure the producers sells to other places beside Menu foods and that has me really concern! Concern enough to take my dog off dry dog food & treats.

Is it primarily cat food that is affected? Also, is it only the moist, canned food?

I heard a vet advice people to switch to dry pet food until this whole thing blows over..I just took a extra precaution and removed all dog food products fom my house. until they find where the posion came from

The scarey thing is I almost bought her mighty dog food for a treat before this hit the news..I put it back on the shelf and decided no she enjoys Cesar canine cuisine..

Some dogs have died but many more cats
Maybe because of a dogs size compared to cats?

Maybe because many dog foods do not contain wheat? Just guessing but I do know that wheat is not supposed to be good for dogs as it is very common for them to be allergic to wheat.

What really angers me is that I use Iams because the Vets recomend that food and almost always dry but that week I bougjt 2 or 3 cans as a treat. God first the peaunut butter scare with my kids now the dog! ALSO what really ANGERS me is that one big company makes the food so is there really no difference in the quality that we think we are paying for!!

One company does make several different brands but each brand has different ingredients, or the ingredients in different amounts. There's also different qualities of ingredients.
I worked at a dog/cat food plant for a while and I can tell you they don't just slap a brand name label and a generic label on the same food, they are different.

Unfortunately most of the pet food on the market is poor quality . . . Look for foods with no fillers - corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. The first three ingredients of ANY quality pet food should be all meat! Also - if you are purchasing pet food from a big company (Science Diet, Purina, etc), you are simply paying for lower quality food and their big ad campaigns! It's too bad really . . . Especially since the Vets promote Science Diet so much! Although it is understandable if your pet needs to be on a special diet . . . JMHO
