Question about medical care for child......

Does anyone have a clue about getting free / small payment for medical care for your child (2 year old)? My husband has just lost his job and our medical cards run out tomorrow. I hate to do a state funded program but I guess for the moment we may have too, we can't really afford to pay hospital bills as they are so ridiculous. Does anyone have any advise on this, or knowledge.

I'm so sorry about your husband losing his job. As far as medical care, I think it really depends on where you live and what programs are available there. Your husband should be able to continue health coverage from his employer through COBRA, but that can be extremely expensive. Maybe he could find out how much that would cost and then you could decide if it's worth it and if you could afford it.

Is your child sick and/or in the hospital or are you just concerned about the possibility of something happening?

Good luck.

My husband lost his job 16 months ago and has only been able to find p/t work. Believe me, I know you hate to rely on the state but here in CT husky has been a godsend for us. My son was in the ER with a concussion several months ago and if not for huskyhealth I don't know how we would have paid those bills. DH and I do not have heath ins. right now but thank goodness DS does. Don't hesitate to apply- you'd be surprised at how high the income guidelines are, I was. It's not just for the unemployed but also for the employed whose employer dosen't offer family healthcare. Good luck to you.

She's not sick, we just have to keep up her immunizations, and I was concerned about that.

Also, another issue we have, as I'm researching health insurance for her is that, my husband is starting his own business, which means we do not have pay stubs, which everyone asks for, what do we do about that?

Thanks so much guys for everything, you are all so full of so much information!!

Oh, I forgot about this when I posted earlier. Yesterday morning on my way to work there was a representative from eHealthInsurance being interviewed on the radio. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention, but he was talking about how you can get individual health insurance through them. Most of the time with a higher deductible, but once the deductible is paid, the insurance kicks in and it is FULL coverage - not just limited coverage for catastrophic events. Maybe you could check into them. Health Insurance, Medical Insurance, Individual Health Insurance Quotes

I'm not sure what to do about the pay stub situation though. Sorry.

First, what state are you in?

If you are self employed call local chamber of commerace- sometimes have group plans.
