My mom had a tummy tuck done with her hysterectomy and it's WORSE than before. Unless they are bringing in a plastic surgeon to do the tummy tuck after the "h", I wouldn't do it. My mom is VERY sorry she did hers. The doctor made no apologies before it's "not her specialty" and "she did her best". I would hate to see her worst

You can talk to a plastic surgeon and tell the dr what your having done and see if you can arrange for them to do the tuck at the same time as the other procedure...what do you lose from asking? or you could be like some women I know and go to South America and get it done for a 1/3 of the cost.

I'm a nurse who works on a surgical floor. Please do NOT have your OB/GYN do a tummy tuck. They aren't trained at all to do these. If you consult with a plastic surgeon he may be able to come in (if his schedule coincides with your doctor) and do the procedure. My friend is thinking of having it done. She's tiny as a stick but had three big babies so her skin is so loose. He quoted her $6000 just for his fee so be prepared.

I thought that most hysterectomies are now being done by putting two tiny holes in the lower abdominals, snipping the fallopian tubes, and then 'giving birth' to the uterus which is where fibroids are generally found... This way the ovaries are left behind. Only reason to remove them is if there is cancer in the ovaries, right? I'm not a medical professional but this is what I have been hearing and reading in the last few years. Purpose of my comment is that this type of procedure would not lend itself to a tummy tuck. I'd go easy on my body and do it at another time (or not do it!) by a plastic surgeon instead of the OB/GYN (as so wisely suggested above). |

wondering if after the hysterectomy, that you might be able to get the insurance company to pay for it as a result of your problem? I would love a tummy tuck too-one of these days it WILL happen. I just hate the bulge on my stomach more than anything on my body-even worse than the long boobs!

I just had exactly what you want done....it is very possible. I had to have a hysterectomy in August of this past year.....well I had some excess skin on my stomach from 3 big babies and the dr told me it would never go away without a tummy tuck. So after a few phone calls I got it all set up and it was wonderful. First off, I had to have an abdominal hysterectomy.....2 prior c-sections and one v-bac with a 9lb 10 oz baby. I am fairly petite ( 5'1" and 108 lbs) and I had 3 big boys.... 8 lb 3 oz...9 lb 11 oz...and 9 lb 10 oz. Due to the scar tissue from the c-sections the hysterectomy couldn't be done vaginally. So...my gyn came in and did the hysterectomy then the plastic surgeon took over and did the tummy tuck and a boob job. I spent 3 days in the hospital...,minimum pain....and it looks awesome. I am now a size 2 with a size 32D chest and an extremely flat tummy (and no monthly period).....I look better at 39 than I did at 25. I love it!!! The cost was minimal (less than $5,000) because the insurance company paid for the operating room cost and the hospital stay....my only cost was the cost of the plastic surgeon. I have no regrets....well except that I didn't do it 5 years ago!!
