After I shower, I usually only blow-dry my bangs. The rest dries naturally...so this wouldn't be a huge stretch style-wise for me. I would go without a shower for one day...beyond that, we'd have to re-think going into work.

If our power ever goes out which is very rare here, I call to tell them I'm going to be late because I have no power then I go to my parents who live about 40 minutes away to get ready for work. It only takes me about 20 minutes to get to my job from their house so I would only be about an hour and a half late. It only takes me 25-30 minutes to get ready because I don't do the makeup thing. I definitely wouldn't call in sick though.

I only wash my hair every other day anyway... Luckily, we have a gas water heater and stove so I can take a shower and feed the family. Cell phone keeps us connected with the outside world. The only difficult thing is night time - evenings just seem strange without light and my one son is deathly afraid of fire (candles) so we use flashlights and our camp lantern! Otherwise, we are fine because we can alway make a run to Sonic or DQ for ice cream cones (other side of town). LOL. This happens every 6 months or so. Our power will go out for around 12 hours cuz a transformer will blow. When utilities were put in this area, they didn't plan for all of the houses that eventually went in. DH would go to work and I'd do my thing -- whatever you call that! |

We have a locker room with showers at work, so I would go to work to shower and have done so before when our water main broke. Even though we have a gas water heater, I thought it didn't function without the electronic controls so we would quickly run out of hot water if we lost power. I could also go to the Y to shower. So my answer is neither. |

Sink bath here and my hair could either get piled on my head dirty or I can sink wash it and pile it up wet. I save my sick and vacation days for important things, like the day after Christmas at Target.

We live where hurricanes can effect our power. With our school right across the street, daycare right next to our neighborhood, odds are if one doesn't have power, we all don't have power! So, those days I'm at home with the kiddo's finding things to do on rainy muggy days with no power in sight... we've only had a few of them..

Hmmm... good point! The thermostat might be powered by electricity. Oh well. I can heat water on the stove and do a sponge bath or baby wipe bath as others have mentioned. Takes more than a dirty body to keep me at home. I'd rather keep to my routine... |

I have bottled water that I would heat on my gas stove and do a quick hair wash. I have short hair and can do it with a small amout of water. To freshen up -baby wipes or use more of my water. I drink pop so I can spare the water We will have to eat out since I used the water . |

20 days without power after hurrican hugo, you find a way around it. I would go on to work.

I would go "as is" anywhere. Speaking of power outages. The past few days here, our electricity keeps going out followed by the sound of a loud explosion in town. This has never happened in all the years I have lived here where the electricity goes out and is followed by the sound of a short explosion. It has started happening twice a day,and I'm worried that one of these times my computer will not survive it.The electricity is only out a second (goes off and on) but does anyone know what is creating the explosion sound when it happens. It is very scary! |

Our gas hot water heater doesn't have any electronic controls, it works fine without any electricity so we would still be able to shower, now if the gas went out it might take me a couple of days but I guess I would take a cold shower. I wouldn't call in sick or be late to work. Dollydeal, the explosion sounds like a transformer, they make a loud boom when they go out (sound like a bomb going off or something). Can go out because of icy weather, really windy weather, etc. |

Well I work in a hotel so I have plenty of showers to be able to goto work ans take one. I live about 20 mins from work so odds are slim that us and them would have no power. 2 different power companies also.

I have to admit......I got a peek at this post after I dropped the kiddies off to school. I had to think about this all day before answering......I WILL ADMIT IT I AM VAIN!!! There I've said it....Hello my name is Vicki and I like a clean EVERYTHING! That being said of course I would do what I had to do. If I was the sole breadwinner, of course my booty would be at work ponytail and all. I can say that now because being a SAHM affords me the luxury of saying I wouldn't when maybe in real life I would. I would really have a struggle over it though b/c I have to wash my hair every morning.

Ok, I'll fess up.......power was out this morning, a car slid into a power pole and knocked out the power for about 2 hours. We also got about 8 inches of snow, so...... I called in, but snowed in, not 'sick'. I have short hair, so I would have had to go into the office with 'bedhead' or cold shower and go in wet, which makes my hair flat. And, everything in the closet was wrinkled. So, we took a snowday and cleaned the closets, scrapbooked and did some crosstitching. I hate the no shower thing......I don't camp well, I even have to shower before a softball game....just the girl in me

I would shower by candle light. I always let my hair air dry so that wouldn't be a streach to me.

I would not consider simply lack of electric a valid reason to call in sick and I doubt if any boss would either. I think a boss "might" be understanding about being a tad late if the alarm clock failed due to lack of electricity though. The boss might also suggest you get an alarm clock with a battery backup. Actually anyone can take a "sponge bath" in cold water without electricity. It might come as a shock but many people don't wash their hair EVERY day anyway. Concerning co-workers, you are all probably without electricity and therefore in the same boat. The place where you work may not even be open for business with no electric. But ,on hte other hand, the work place may be open for employees. When I lived in Florida we had days like that. We jokingly called it working "Unplugged" and spent the time at work catching up on manual tasks since we couldn't use the computers without electricity. |

I would go to work. I have to be dieing before I call in sick and even then I think I would feel guilty. I would just sponge bath it and go. I don't think they would care too much if my hair wasn't done they would just be happy I showed up.

Since the water still works at my house when the power goes out...I would take a shower (enjoy what hot water I had left in the tank ...or cold shower after that), and go to work. I would show up to work a little early with my blowdryer and fix my hair there. I have had to do this many times after hurricanes and bad storms.

So speaking of power. i just realized i love power! lol ok not so much but I do hate running propane heaters in the house. i'm kinda paranoid about fires and explosions etc. plus they make everything smell terrible. So i say thank god after 10 hours my power just came back on now i don't have to worry about what to make for dinner (i discovered there's nothing in the cupboard today that doesn't need heating). Its been a weird morning snowed in with no electricity, no heat until my landloard brought over the propane heater a couple hours ago. Husband had to wait to get plowed out and remove several large branches from the top of the car. So. for the record he didn't shower today but planned on doing an "army shower" upon arriving at work since we didn't have running water. I threw my hair and a ponytail and put on some really warm clothes. living in maine i'm' kinda used to the drill which reminds me i should probably bring my frozen foods back indoors now. I can't wait another second for my shower. i'm off.

That is so crazy to me a, floridian that you can just take your foods outside!!! Ours would just be a big ole' stinky mess, and a waste of a bunch of money. When we lose power it has never been for a long period of time.....even when we had the hurricane our part of town still had power......my friend did not have power for thirteen days and a two month old at home. (lucky they bought a generator beforehand)

I would wash my hair with cold water and use a wet washcloth on the rest. Towel dry my hair and away I go. I have short hair so I can't go without washing since it has a mind of its own and sticks up all over the place.
