Need gift ideas for a housewarming

We are going to visit our friends and would like to take a housewarming gift to them. This is their 2nd (summer) home. Any ideas (besides a plant-they don't like 'em)? I was thinking of something with their name on it, but since we are going next weekend, we won't have time to order anything.

Thanks for any ideas!!

I usually take a nice bottle of wine. If they aren't drinkers, I have given homemade goodies, GC's for nursery's (for flowers, yard stuff) or bottle of sparkling cider

Are you a good baker? You could bake them a favorite homemade cake in a nice, new baking dish (maybe a 9x13 dish) and take that along with a copy of the recipe.

How about a nice candle?

If you really want something with their name on it, are there any stores like Things Remembered where you live? You could just have their name engraved on something and I believe you can have that done pretty quickly.

I like the Things Remembered idea. What about a brass doorknocker with their last name engraved on it??

The German tradition is to bring a loaf of bread on a wooden board and a (nice ceramic) bowl of salt. It has something to do with prosperity and happiness ....

I just looked it up on a German website: It is an old Roman custom. Bread and salt were the most cherished items.

Maybe some simple baking/cooking suplies. Some measuring cups and spoons, baking dishes, mixing bowls. Or some cute sheets, or the thing you use most (other then a TV) in your house. If this is a summer home it will take them a while to stock it like their full time home.

My usual for new weighbors is a tray lined with a pretty dish towel. Then I put a couple of coffee/tea mugs on it with a bunch of flavored coffees and teas. It has always been a big hit. When it is someone new to the neighborhood, I also add some take out menus that deliver to our neighborhood.

How about a pretty sun-catcher to hang in their window, or some wind chimes?

I also like the idea of wind chimes...Other ideas...a bird feeder, a garden sculpture, a beautiful new doormat, a desktop water fountain, a nice set of picture frames, a high-quality throw or blanket for the couch, or a Yankee candle. ~Lisa

I always make some baked goods and make a basket up of household goods like: candles, dish liquid, sponges, just different things like that. Things they use all the time. Not something thats going to be put in the corner, ya know.
