where to donate unused medical supplies?

Hi all,
With all of the home health care that Patrick received, we have bags and bags of medical supplies-saline syringes, alcohol prep wipes, lines for iv drips, etc. All is in its original packaging, so it's sterile. I would hate to throw it away if someone could use it- would like to donate it someplace, but not quite sure where. I thought of calling the Food Bank to see if they have any ideas, or someplace like Operation Smile. Any better ideas for me? Thanks! Lynne

I think that Matthew 25: Ministries would like to have them. But you would have to ship it to them I think. They have an email to ask questions. They are down the street from my work. We do food drives for them and I drop things off to them a couple of times a year. You might try the Food Bank in your area, even if they can't take it they might know someone. I think it's great your are willing to donate it.

I used to work as a Home Care RN (for a home care agency- public health, hospice, etc..) and frequently people would donate supplies to us for use and we were always able to use them. They came in so handy.

We had to teach a lot of IV, infusion procedures to families and often they get just the correct amount of syringes and all from their supplier but sometimes things happen and they need extras- especially with teaching how to draw up meds and all.

I think that this is great and have always tried to give back what I can to others. I am sure that they would be appreciated.

Nursing homes that have "low cost facilities" could probably use them.
Supplies can run short in those types of places.

donate it back to what ever agency provided them to you. We have a room full of donated supplies that goes out to our patients who can not afford to buy the supplies. we have alot and I mean a whole lot of homeless people who need us to bring the supplies as we go to give their care. I recently had a homeless man who required a twice daily dressing change and I would meet him , with all the supplies I needed for the change , behind a local bar. This area was close to the bridge he stayed under and was a little cleaner area to provide care than the bridge.

There are 2 free clinics in our town. They help the low income and the uninsured people here.
You might check to see if there is one in your area. They are always happy to get medical supplies.

Local Hospice may be able to use them also.

Try World Medical Relief, through a church. WMR will take lots of medical supplies that most places will not. They send them overseas with Drs. visiting poor countries.

Thanks guys, great suggestions. Since a couple of you all had mentioned churches, I had DH call his parents who are very active in their church in Pa. Turns out, their church sponsors a couple of free clinics in Harrisburg. DH is meeting them halfway tomorrow btwn our house and theirs, to give them a couple of kids for the week, so we won't have to pay shipping. I am surprised at the need for these products-didn't think I'd be able to give them away-so glad to know that someone can use them.
