anyone have an iud?

My dh was going ot get a vasectomy next month, but now we are undecided about having a 3rd. I want one he's not sure. He said he would call off the appt if I get an iud put in.. I 've heard horror stories about them. Does anyone have any experience with them?

My friend Yvonne got pregnant four times on an IUD. That's all I know about them.

I have had them TWICE since they were so called 'updated' and better. They are not. I would never recommend them to anyone. Putting them in and taking them out was rather pain free. HOWEVER, the pain that you live with daily while it is in is a completely different story. And let's not forget the horrific bleeding that occurs at any time. And that's just a few of my horror stories.

If you have specific questions, let me know. I can not and will not ever have another one.
And just for additional info, my mom had two of them as well. One resulted in a miscarriage and the other is ME!!

Seroiusly, please think about this long and hard. Again, feel free to post any specific question or general question, I will answer honestly.

I had an IUD for a number of years. Yes the same one. I did not have any problems with it. No pregnancies & no unusual bleeding. It worked great for me.

i had an iud for six years and it was great other than weird periods. sometimes i would go three months with nothing then i had a week of not being able to go anywhere because a tampon and pad wouldn't contain the flow, you know? now we are trying to get pregnant and even though i had it removed seven months ago it still hasn't happened, ugh! i say let him do it if he's willing

I have never had one, so can't help you there. One of my best friends has one know and loves it. Funny story-we were talking one eve and somehow the IUD conversation came up. She said, "The great thing is that I don't have to have it out until *Matthew* is five years old." I laughed and said, "Umm, Matthew turned five years old last month." Her face turned all sorts of red and she said, "Really, I thought he was only four?" It was too funny.

an iud doesn't prevent pregancy.. it just is supposed to prevent the embryo from attaching the uterus after fertilization.. so you can still get pg.. the iud is just supposed to prevent it from sticking.. I had one for a BRIEF period then out popped my daughter with it on her chest.. so no more for me....hehehehe.. iuds.. i mean.. we had one more child after her without the iud then condoms since.. tell him to start using condoms or get the big V.. about time men start taking more control over BC rather than leave it up to us.

I have an IUD and no problems. We opted to get one because I am done but DH wanted to try for a girl, we are still young and didn't want to do anything final. It hurt me when it was put in but not too bad. I have the 5 year one that has some hormones in it. The hormones are released like birth control pills helping to prevent a fertilized egg and something else (I do not know what) prevents an egg from sticking. I have had it for nearly 3 years. I also tell my friends I don't have to even think about it until Matthew* is 10. I do have weird cycles but they are usually very short and not painful. I used to have very painful cycles. I LOVE my IUD.

(P.S. We are now in the prosses of adoptnig a girl so DH will be going to get the big V as soon as she is offically ours.)

* DS name was changed for this post

I had an IUD, 10 yr no hormones for 6 yrs. I had no problems with it. I got it 3 months after I gave birth to my 2nd one. We decided to have one more and had it removed with no problems. I got pregnant 2 months later. I recommend them at least I recommend the 10 yr one w/no hormones. I haven't heard great things about the 5 yr one though.

Good luck! Everyone is different.

Just wanted to add that I had the TEN year IUD with no horomones.

....It was horrible. I think it took years to get my body back to normal.
