Unhappy My neighbor is being stinky! (long)

Okay, we have three dogs. First one is a police k-9, he is a work dog. Our other two are rescued dogs, my DH and another officer responded to a call at a crackheads house. They had two dogs, a pekingese and a chihuahua....these two dogs had puppies. And the litter of pups was in a box on a shelf so the puppies could not nurse and they would eventually starve to death. It was so sad!! So, between my DH and the other officer we expanded both families. We took two and he took the other three.

We have had these dogs (Mango and Kiwi) since August of last year. Since that time the neighbors dogs (both dogs weigh about 65 lbs. apeice) Have killed neighborhood cats, because they are not properly watched. In December, one of the neighbors dogs, dug a hole under the fence and tried to kill Kiwi. Thank God my DH had the work dog out and he tore the neighbor dog a new one. But after the neighbor dog let go of Kiwi, she ran into my house, completely filthy, and tore down the Christmas tree (completely destroyed almost all the ornaments, some I've had since I was a small child) then she ran into my room and jumped all over the bed. My children are screaming and we thought Kiwi was dead! (she had fainted) We could not get control of the dog and my DH was getting control of the work dog.

The neighbor was called and told and she came home and put her dog up. No apology or anything, just upset she was called at work about her Dogs!! Well, later that night my husband was repairing the fence and the hole she dug when neighbors husband comes out and they start talking. He didn't know what had happened b/c she didn't tell him. They had a yelling match that night b/c after the last cat was killed the Police told her the dog would be put down. So long story short, (too late) the dog is constantly trying to get to the puppies.....well We are no longer willing to buy dirt to fill in the hole. (its at least twice a week) So the hole is there and my pupppy ran through it and into her yard. She calls me all nasty about keeping watch over my dogs. I swear, we were outside with the dogs and I was in the process of getting her back through the fence when she called my cell phone!!!

Should I just ingore it or say something? I should probably say that this neighbor has always been friendly up until her dogs went crazy. What would you do?

I think I would call animal control. It's like a dog bully. Don't tolerate it. I'm guessing she has never chipped in to help pay for the dirt either. The best way is to get animal control involved or the police.

Well I will say you have more patience than I do. I would not put up with any neighbors dog digging into my back yard....Any dog can be broken of digging...... they are just too lazy to teach the dog not to dig!!!

The fact that this dog has killed neighbors cats ...Your neighbors are heartless!!!! To me these dogs are territoral and would easily go after a small child If it was me I would tell them they need to control their dog better ...if they can't then make a police report

Is there anything that repels dogs?
Something you could put in and near the hole to keep him away?
Or fill up the hole with concrete?
Otherwise I'd say you have no choice but to involve the police.
You can't have that dog attacking your dogs, scaring your kids and keeping you upset!

My husband is the police. That is why we haven't saaid anything yet. (they always make jokes that we can have them arrested, and that really makes my DH uncomfortable. Thats all we need is someone crying foul......We have decided to put in a motion camera (and camera that will start recording when the dogs start moving around) and then send it to animal control.

I would hate for the dogs to be put down, they are really sweet when there are no other animals around. They are very animal aggressive though and I would hate if they got brave and went after a child. This dog went after my 6 yo (45 lbs soaking wet b/c she was holding the puppy in our front yard) while we were leash training her and the puppy. The dog scratched up her face with her paws THANK GOD she didn't bite DD. That dog would have been shot! But b/c the dog wasn't going after DD on purpose my neighbors thought it was no big deal! That was two days after we got the puppies in August.

I hate to keep going on about the situation. But it is making me crazy, it would be a different story if the neighbors cared but, it sure doesn't seem like it!!!

I dont have much advice but wanted to suggest that you dig out around the hole that the dog keeps digging and take a piece of chicken wire or something and then put it in the hole that you have dug. Then refill it. Supposedly, this is suppse to stop the dog from digging because they dont like the feel of hitting the wire with their nails.

I hope that you and your neighbor are able to work things out and that all the dogs (and kids too!) involved are able to stay safe.

Darlene

Ohhhh! I also remember that my hubby told me that if you scoop the dog poop from your yard and put it in the hole that the dog is digging it might also stop them from digging there.

I would have sued the neighbor over the damage their dog did in your house...that might have woken them up a bit. too late for that now If the neighbor can't control their dogs (sounds like they don't care too), I would call animal control and hope they adopt them out.

Maybe something as simple as putting red pepper flakes or even black pepper where the dog digs. If he starts having a sneezing fit, he may be cured of doing this again.

ANother thing to stop the digging it line around your fence with chicken wire or chain link. My dogs dig and I have no idea how to stop them. We dug a small trench along the fence, laid down chicken wire, and filled back in the hole. The dogs could only dig to the wire then were forced to stop. That stopped them from digging under the fence. Now I just have to figure out how to get them to stop digging in the yard.

we did the chicken wire and the dog pulled it out (a piece about 24 inches down and 48 inches across) with its teeth and paw.

Maybe if DH decides we will put a bigger piece along the length of the fence. And sprinkle some pepper. Is it a special kind of pepper or every day kind?

I tried the pepper trick about 20 years ago when I had a samoyed..It didn't worked Your neighbors are going to have to watch the dog every single second to break the dog of it's digging habits.otherwise I think you are facing a losing battle.

My neighbor dogs were always getting out did the chicken wire and it failed also..The only thing that worked for them was they dug very deep along the fence line & filled it with cement...I'm so glad they found something that worked for them!! I was really afraid their dogs were going to get hit by a car.

I would try to get the neighbor to pour cememt on their side..There is no reason why you should be out any money because of their animals...If you pour cement on your side ...you will still have problems with the dogs escaping from someplace else and roaimng the neighborhood

I broke my Westie of digging...It is in their blood to dig and hunt for pray ..It took me awhile to get her to stop digging but I was determine I stood guard by the window and every time she paw at the ground I told her No..

I know...why not pack your bags and get that heck out of that whacky neighborhood? Oh wait, you are already doing that...LOL

For now, much as it stinks, you might have to keep the girls on tethers. I know it is not fair to them but nothing is working so keep em safe for now.

If I knew they had already killed neighborhood cats, and they attacked my little dog, I would call animal control and have something done before they hurt my child. It may be the owner's fault, but it's the dogs that are doing the damage. And apparently the owners don't particularly care. As much as I love animals, I'd have to do what was best for my family. If I just let it go, and something really tragic happened, I'd be haunted forever by what I "should have" done.

Does your PD not have any connections to animal control? I'd get them involved, and fast. This situation seems dangerous.

Yes the police told them that the dogs would be put down if another situation occured. I guess I would hate knowing that we put them down. I know, I know not our fault but still, yuck I get the shivers.
