Unhappy Another shooting: What is WRONG with people???

Gunman kills 21 on Virginia Tech campus - Yahoo! News

What is WRONG with people????!!!! I just don't understand what a person must be thinking to do this kind of destruction....so sad for the innocent involved

We are about an hour away from Littleton where the Columbine shootings were. DH's cousin went there at the time. I just send good thoughts and vibes to those involved at Virginia Tech

OMG, I haven't heard about that!

It is so hard to believe the things that happen these days, there are a lot of young people out there who need help and have no one. Very disturbing.

Such a sad story. I also have Dora (on demand) on. I get most of my news from these boards. My prayers go out to these kids and their families.

OMG that is so sad. Virginia Tech is about 2 hours away from here, I know some people that go there, I'm getting on the phone now to see if anyone was hurt that I know. This is so crazy, why do people have to act so stupid. Thanks for the news, I'm steam cleaning the house and have disney on for Emma so she won't try to "help" Thanks again.

They're now reporting 29 dead, possibly 32. I don't get it either. So sad.

Oh my. Haven't seen the story yet. Was the gunman a disgruntled student? Is he one of the dead or still on the loose?
By the sounds of it, this may be the worst campus shooting in history.

This is OUR school! (See my 'signature' line -- HOKIES!) This is so sad. We don't live far from VT. We've been trying to reach my niece all morning and her husband. He works for VT. All the lines are blocked. The gunman has been killed, though. It started with one shooting in a dorm this morning around 7:30 and then another shooting started around 9:30. Our local news broke with the story this morning and that's all that's on TV. At first they were saying one dead, then we heard other numbers and then they finally broke that the number is in the 20's dead and it seems to be going up. The gunman, who was wearing some sort of vest, just walked down the hall in the engineering department shooting. One of the students who was interviewed saw him and said there was blood everywhere. Students were jumping out the second story windows just to escape. All the schools in the county are on lockdown and VT campus is closed. VT has several bomb threats just last week.

This is so shocking to all of us. It just seems so senseless. Just heard from my niece. Her husband is okay. She was crying. VT is a great college. This is horrible that this has happened. We're all just in shock around here. Please keep all the students and the college in your prayers.

My nephew is at Tech. Thankfully, we just heard back from his dad and he is alright. He didn't have early classes today...thank the Lord! He lives off campus and didn't have any information for his dad when they talked.

My prayers go out to the students, faculty and staff at VT as well as their families!

I often wonder when people get so disturbed why they think it is right or it will solve their problems to kill innocent people!

About one year ago I was working in a High School cafeteria,
A bank was robbed by a man near by the School where I worked at.
This man came to the School, went to a classroom and held the students hostage.
This went on for about 4 hours. Untill the police came, And finally the man gave himself up. No harm to any of the students or staff or the police
I was in the School kitchen so I was't in any danger
The High School was in lock down the whole time.

My prayers go out to the students, staff and the families in VT

VaTech is a huge school for our kids to attend-around here, the consensus is either UVA, Va Tech, or JMU. I am dreading the list coming out-I am sure we will know someone, who knows someone, etc. on the list. It just sucks! You think you are sending your kid off to a great school and then this happens. My heart is breaking for the h.s. students-there will be a huge ripple effect here.

Its just awful it really is, thats where I intend on sending my son when he graduates in 9 yrs, hes 8 now.

I sat here on pins and needles waiting to hear from my one neighbor on whether her son was Okk, he is but very disturbed as he resides in the dorm where the first incident happened. There are 2 others in my complex that I know their kids attend VT, but both sets of parents are on a cruise and I dont know where to start trying to contact to see if the kdis are Ok.

They still dont know if both incidents are linked or separate. Who the gunamn that is dead is, he had no ID , cell phone nothing to identify him by and they wont release a list of the victims until tommorrow. Our Governor Tim Kaine was in Asia at a trade conference and he heard about the incident and he is flying back to attend the "convocation" at VT tomorrow and he has ordered that the VA State flag be flown at half staff, my DH went back to work and lowered the one here in the community it after he heard about it. The Governor has also issued a state of emergency so that any and all resources are available to to VT, Blacksburg Police etc.

It truly breaks my heart and has had me in tears all day, my son doesnt understand how do you explain to an 8 yr old something like this?

Its a sad time for our County; Fairfax County VA as two local girls are among the victims, both reported by family members and both very promising young ladies. It just breaks my heart.

I think what ticks me off the most is now that they have Identified the coward who did this only to find out he was also from this area makes it hurt more.

I dont know about the two kids we know, I left VM on the cell phones and am praying they took them on the cruise and check them and let me know. I sit here at home and I watch the neighborhood goings on afrom my desk or the couch and I watched these 3 kids grow up, my one neighbors son came home from VT he was at the school bus-stop this morning waiting with his little cousin, and I went out and hugged the daylights out of him, he doesnt want to go back and his mother said its fine if he so chooses, but I know her well she will probably send him to counseling.

I cant even turn the TV on today they keep breaking in and reporting I cant take anymore.

The killer has been identified as Cho Seung-Hui, a legal alien from Korea, who has been in the U.S. since 1992. Seems as though he had been planning this for a while. He bought a gun from a firearms dealer legally the middle of March and then on Friday the 13th, bought another one. He had previously set a dorm fire and was allegedly stalking women. His writings in his creative writing class was so disturbing that the professor reported him to the university counselor.

This is just a hard time for the community and university. More and more stories of how these kids survived or how some students and professors sacrificed their lives for their students is heartbeaking. One professor put himself in front of his classroom door, allowing his students to escape out the window, and the gunman shot the 75 year old professor.

I just hope this doesn't stop people from sending their kids to Tech. It's a great school and this could have happened anywhere. It just happened to occur at VT. I watched the convocation service on TV and listened to President Bush and Governor Kaine speak, both of which were really good and touching. The kids all had on their orange and maroon shirts, proudly showing off their school colors.

Please continue to keep VT and our community in your thoughts and prayers.

RE: I just hope this doesn't stop people from sending their kids to Tech

I am currently on the road with my HS Junior visiting colleges of interest. We were touring the engineering campus at UPenn today and one of the parents was chatting with me and said she would not consider sending her son to Tech now. How crazy is that? I gave my opinion that this was very tragic but could happen anywhere. She was adamant that the situation been handled improperly. I was very surprised/disappointed to hear that. I really think it's impossible to protect against these kind of random and senseless acts. Sure, Tech will make some changes in the aftermath, and maybe VA will tighten its gun laws, but I'm not sure anything can head off these awful tragedies completely.

This is how I know that know one can predict the future.....if so wouldn't they tell you about this???
I think its really stupid to say you wouldn't send you kid there now......I mean we'd all have to live in a bubble and never leave our house for nothing to ever happen.......but then you'd probably slip and fall in the tub! No Police, Military, Security campus could have prevented what happened. It just is ignorant to believe so.
