I don't ..I really want to find a good sealtbelt that has been approved by vets..That I can attach in the middle of the backseat..My biggest fear is the air bags deploying ---which in my mind if the air bag deploys & hits her it would kill her

don't have pets here but I know my insurance agent (when I signed up for my insurance) asked if I had pets and if I did, to make sure they were buckled up

Our male dog normally sits on DH's lap. Our female dog is in the back seat, with her harness and leash on. I tie a knot in the leash, leaving an opening so that I can put the seatbelt through it. I make sure she has a bit of room to move around, but not enough to jump into the front seat of the car.

I do not now but a few years back I had a Shih Tzu, Bridget, that had the harness thing with a loop on it for the seat belt to fit through - much like 1boymom's idea. It worked great - she could move around a little bit, but would be safer in case of a crash (since she had a tendancy to want to get in the back windshield).

Unrestrained dogs become what paramedics/firefighters/police/nurses and doctors refer to as missiles. You get in a 35 mile an hour wreck and that little dog can break your neck or give you severe brain injury.

I always drive when we need to take the dogs to the vet, thus the male dog being on DH's lap, as he is in the passenger seat. He is unable to be restrained in the vehicle, or crated due to anxiety issues. If I tried to tether him the way I do our female dog (who has no problem with restraint and anxiety issues) he would wrap himself up in the small bit of leash he has. |

Absolutely, I have been to many a crash scene where the dog has killed or seriously injured the occupants in the car. Its terrible, and most ppl don't think about it......One unrestrained person can kill everyone in the car as well. If the person or the animal is not restrained, unless they are ejected from the car/truck, they will fly around the cabin of the car/truckand harm others.
