Help Me Find A Solution!!!

OK - let me start by saying that I KNOW babies come when they want to...that being said...

I am three days overdue. I am seriously wondering how much longer I can handle being pregant. This is my third. 1st one came at 31 weeks, second on due date, this one - it seems like never.

I have tried caster oil, pineapple, walking (to the point I am hobbled!), pumping (my current youngest is only one year), playing "nice" with husband...

I don't know what else to do. I am feeling sooo much pressure. I can barley get up and down stairs. My feet have swollen so bad I can't wear socks or shoes - just DH's slippers - which was an attractive site at the grocery store yesterday I am sure...

So, done ranting - any other wives tales on how to get a baby out. I am willing to write up and deliver evition papers!

Sara

PS: We KNOW the due date is correct. We also know that until May 7th the docotor won't do anything. Current situation - no dilation, no effacement. (Tons of pointless contractions.)

UPDATE (4/18): Still waiting. I have an appointment at the docotor tommrow. As to why they will let me go over 3 weeks...I was still feeding my baby when I got pregant - there was no cycle to help them date the pregancy. I happen to know when my husband was in and out of town, and that during that month there was only one time it could have happened. They dated it based on hormone levels. They came up with April 29th. (I have had cancer in the past three years - which the oncologist told me and make any hormones in my body off kilter.) So, the doc is only letting me go one week over by their date - three by mine. Thanks for the advice - I am really at such a low point I would actually think the doctor would be concerned about my emotional state.

UPDATE (4/29): Being induced tommrow :-)

I was a week late with my first two. If that kids all about headstrong, your baby will wait until you have flat told her/him you don't care if she ever comes out!!! This second I told my two DDs that, the contractions started right away!! LOL

I am concerned that you are already 3 days overdue and your Dr. won't induce you for ANOTHER 3 weeks. If you are 40 weeks 3 days now, May 7th would make you 43 weeks, 1 day.
I am not an obstetrician, but I know enough to know that 43 weeks gestation can be dangerous.

Macrosomia, ( large baby) Shoulder distocia, maternal pre-eclampsia and fetal meconium aspiration are the first few thoughts.

I would be on the phone with my OB demanding an induction in the next few days, and if he diagrees, I would ask him his reasons for making me go 43 weeks.

I feel for you, I hated every minute of my pregnancies!

You won't be pregnant forever!!

Good Luck!

Dang Cici! My third was 10 days overdue and my OB kept talking about induction and I kept resisting... she was born at home when she was ready! Same with first daughter (2nd baby).. 11 days overdue. My first was 4 days overdue and I let them induce me... and I said NEVER again!

I know how uncomfortable you must be! I went 42 weeks (measuring 45 weeks) with my last one, and he turned out to be 10lbs and 23 inches long. I was induced at that point. And that was in the middle of a VERY HOT summer. Honestly at 3 days overdue, I say just keep doing what your doing, healthy ways to try to make things come along, but otherwise focus on making yourself as comfortable as can get on some lose clothes..lay down with your feet up, and some ice cold water...I'm sure it must be so incredibly different for you since your other babies came early.

I do however agree that, I don't know if that is quite healthy to go to 43 weeks, especially when your so uncomfortable. I could see waiting another week, before I would demand that something be done.

Here's to a pain free, quick labor and delivery!

My ds was 8 days late. He didn't want to come out for anything. I was induced. I hope you can avoid that route. I would not let it go longer than 42 weeks though.

Personally, I wouldn't do the castor oil. I've heard that it can cause the baby to have a bowel movement and you don't want that to happen. I've always wondered if any of the so called labor starters actually work or if it's just coincidence. I vote for coincidence.

My first was 16 days overdue. The doc had me drink a whole bottle of green stuff (Citra something) in the stool softener section. It worked, I drink it at 7am headed to the hospital with contractions at noon and had him by 10:20pm.

Good Luck have a safe and Quick delivery!

I have to agree. The placenta starts to get "old" for lack of a better word after 40 weeks. I don't think it's safe to be 43 weeks pregnant before your doctor will induce. I'd think of finding a new dr if I was gonna have anymore. Anyway, I'd ask to be induced. I was induced w/my third at 38 weeks 2 days. It was the easiest delivery I had. My 2nd one came at 37 weeks 1 day (and was 9 pounds 5 ounces) and my 1st was born five days early.

I don't have any suggestions on how to get your little one here. I've never had to worry about going late (and shouldn't next time, either, since I have "big" babies and they won't let me go the whole 40 weeks now!). I'd REALLY talk w/your doctor and demand induction if that is what you want.

I had four of these creatures spring from my loins-and they ALL were substantially late (except for the youngest who I insisted on having induced so that I wouldn't be in the hospital Christmas day-he was still 8lbs. ) I have heard that if you dehydrate yourself, that will encourage a baby to come out as well. But maybe there is a reason that the sweet little babushkin hasn't come out yet, and as much as it sucks, you should go with "his" timeframe...

No solution here. Both my kids were early. I just wanted to say "good luck." Let us know when the baby finally does decide to bless you with his/her apperance.

With my last (third) child, I decided to uproot a pretty sizable bush in my yard. I began working on the bush a 3:00 and by 10:20 that night she was born. Coincidence? Not sure. But she was a healthy baby.

Eat Egg plant parmesan.

"For more than twenty years, women have gone to Scalini's Italian restaurant in Cobb County, Georgia, with one thing on their minds: To go into labor. They always order the Eggplant Parmesan, which, so far, has helped encourage more than 300 babies to come into the world within 48 hours of their mom eating the meal.

The restaurant promises results within two days. If you haven't had your baby by then, expectant moms get a gift certificate for another try.

The chefs at Scalini's shared their recipe with us. If it doesn't work, sorry, there's no gift certificate -- but you can use the recipe again, absolutely free of charge. (For best results, don't try it until your due date.)"

Eggplant Parmesan alla Scalini's Ingredients:
3 medium size eggplants
1 cup of flour
6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
Olive oil for sautéing
8 cups of marinara sauce*
1/2 cup of grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 lbs of mozzarella cheese shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese

Instructions:
After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4 inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it, however you may want to leave the skin on since the skin contains a lot of vitamins. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy. This will drain the excess moisture. Let them set for about an hour.

Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, then dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with bread crumbs. Saute' in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.

In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan, and romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish about an 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese and bake for 25 minutes in 375 degree oven. Let set for 10 minutes before serving.

Scalini's Marinara Sauce
2 tablespoons of chopped garlic
3 tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
1 cup onions chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon black pepper

Lightly sauté the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes. Add garlic and saute' another minute. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to boil, then turn heat to low. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Hey it's worth a try if you can stomach it!

Would your doctor be willing to scrape your membranes? I know this is not the most pleasant experience but I had it done with both of my DS's and had them with 24 hours of having it done.
Best of luck to you!

I just wanted to say that most "home remedies" that say that they bring on labor act on different hormone levels in your body.

The hormone that is produced during labor is Oxytocin. Oxytocin is also the chemical that is released during orgasm in both sexes (that's why they say to "get friendly" with your partner!). Sex will work, but only if you are truly relaxed and enjoying it.

Most other remedies also work on one theory or another, but in the end they all focus on one important fact: You must relax! If you are tense/anxious/worried, so is your baby.

My professional opinion as a Massage Therapist is that you need to relax. As long as your doctor approves it, go get a prenatal massage. But before you go, see if you can find someone who can stimulate your "points". There are certain accupressure points that can be stimulated that will induce labor. It's been working in the far East for thousands of years. It wouldn't have lasted that long if it doesn't work.

Also, you could find a Doula at Welcome to Find a Doula . A Doula is a Massage Therapist whose sole purpose is to focus on you and your partner. Depending on your situation a Doula would be the best choice. If I were pregnant again, that's what I would do. (I know what you're thinking, but they're not THAT expensive. They can work with you if you tell them your situation. Just say that you have $xx.xx money to get this done and say, "For that amount, what can you do for me in my situation." More than likely they will do what they can for you. I know that I've never turned down $ for a massage if someone really needed it, even if I don't get my percentage.)

BTW, I can sympathize with you. My DD is a normal sized 6 y.o. But when she was born, she was (only 2 days overdue) 10 lbs. 2 oz., 22 1/2 in long, with a 14 in. head. Trust me, I understand.

You can email me if you want! I love to answer questions about massage! And if I don't know the answer, I'll find out for you!

Hang in there!

Judi

We did some pretty strenuous yardwork on the day that I had the half a beer with dinner and then had the baby. Forgot that part until Judi mentioned it!

I do believe that relaxation is key. Of course, baby also has to be ready.

VERY soon you will have your little darling! Hang in there.

My friend is a beautician and she learned in cosmetology school that you cant have pedicures when you're pregnant, so try that it will relax you and your feet with look nice when you can see them again.

I know you don't want to hear it, but a normal pregnancy can last anywhere from 38 to 42 weeks. They always use 40 weeks as your due date because it is right in the middle. I just can't imagine your doctor letting you get to 43 weeks though. That just seems cruel!

My DD was breach and I had a scheduled c-section at 38 1/2 weeks. I was absolutely miserable and can't imagine having to have had to go any longer than that. I'm not sure I would have lasted though, since I was already having some mild contractions and bleeding a little. I'm sorry, but I don't know what to tell you to make the baby come any faster. When my friend was 40 weeks pregnant (and desperate), she went jogging and did some jumping jacks, but it didn't work - the baby came 5 days later.

Did you mean to say that you can't or you CAN have pedicures when you're pregnant? I asked my doctors and they said it was fine. Actually, both of my OB's encouraged me to see a chiropractor (for back pain), get pregnancy massages, and get pedicures.

I had a pedicure a few days before my scheduled c-section. It was absolutely wonderful! The girl who did my pedicure really took her time and massaged my feet, ankles and calves. It did wonders to get the horrible swelling down. It really was just a bonus that my feet looked pretty afterwards.

Aww, I feel for you. I did the "Nice" thing w/ hubby and went for a walk and it worked for me. I had DD on due date (first baby), but second was induced. Never again for me either, induction was horrible on me. Just keep walking and such. I heard that stimulation of your......uh.....feeding implements can bring on contractions. Good luck and keep us informed of what worked.

Honestly if your feet are that swollen they may just induce you. I thought I was having contractions (which I was but only dialated to 2) and my feet and legs were really bad swollen, so they induced me, they were concerned about that.

True, sort of. One of the main accupressure points that will stimulate labor is on the insides of your legs, two finger widths above your ankle bone and about one finger length toward the posterior of your leg. In other words, some times they have to hold your legs at funny angles and after they have to hold your leg, they may rub the area. That is what you don't want. You don't want that point stimulated.

Much more complicated than that, but that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

But yes, go get a pedicure!

Edited to say: Massages are encouraged during pregnancy. But you MUST go to someone who knows EXACTLY what they're doing. And no massage therapist should see you before 12 weeks. There is too much of a risk of miscarriage in the first trimester.

Funny that you mention this -- I live in GA near Scalini's. We went there and I had the Eggplant Parmesan when I was pregnant with DS#2, but it didn't work for me. Some of my friends had tried it and it worked for them, but it didn't work for others. It was funny because everyone was telling me to go to Scalini's <lol.

My DS#1 was born at 37 weeks, so by the time I hit that point with DS#2, I was ready for him to be born. I tried just about everything. He finally arrived (on his own terms) 4 days before his due date. That was probably the LONGEST 2 weeks of my life, waiting for him!!!

Good luck with your induction and delivery!

My first was 2 weeks late and they finally induced me and this was in JUNE....HOT and miserable. My second was a scheduled C section in July. But only a few days past my due date.
It is a strange feeling to know exactly what day your baby will arrive but you'll be so glad to have it all over with that you won't care!
Again, good luck.

Good luck! I loved being induced compared to my other two labors/deliveries. It was a little "weird" knowing WHEN she was coming, but it was so much easier and less painful being induced!

my 1st two boys were early, one at 6 weeks early and the other at 8 weeks early. Then my daughter she was ONE MONTH over due. I was so unbelievably miserable, it is completely undescribeable! However, finally after 4 weeks of being overdue, I was induced and it was great, MUCH better than 'real' labor. I can feel your pain on being overdue. Since my 1st two were early, it made my overdue' ness seem like forever!

Good Luck tomorrow and Hope you and baby do great!
