Not that it will make you feel any better, but I saw a report on the news that says you are more likely to have your card # compromised in person rather than on the net. It's happened to us and to our DD and both times it was not from online shopping. Somebody swiped numbers at a restaurant and at a shoe store in DD's case.

| It happened to me too. I think it was at a restarant. They charged over $2000.00 dollars on my debit card, it got cleared up and the fees and everything were reversed but it took over a week, I felt so violated. I have a friend in security ( for a big store) and he was telling me that they can swipe your card at a restarant and then go behind that and swipe after your card and it stores your information. Since then I have a alert on my cell phone, everytime a purchase is made on my card for more than $75.00 dollars it send me an alert. |

Same thing happened to my Dad at a restaurant too. His number was stolen while he was waiting for them to come back so he could sign off on it. It's not safe anywhere anymore. I found out this past weekend that my ebay account had been compromised by someone trying to use my ebay ID to send e-mails out to customers to steal money from them. This was just on Oprah last Friday and has happened to a friend of mine who fell for the email scam. I was told my ebay that they froze my account when it happened and made sure that it did not affect my rating with them. I am so sick of all the deceit in this world right now!!!!!!!!

| Is that something all banks offer. I haven't heard of that before. I guess I'll have to call and ask mine if they offer something of that sort. That would be very handy as I do a lot of shopping online, heck in B&M also. lol

I do know mine happened from an online purchase because it is the only place I use this particular card. I don't use it for any bills so I don't have to worry about that. It's just very aggravating. BTW how do I add a fraud alert to my credit reports like a poster mentioned? TIA

| I use Chase bank used to be Bank One, and this is a free service they offer. It can be a pain if you set your limit too low, for example I had set the limit for an alert for 25.00, well I can get gas and it will be well pass that, so I set it higher. Check with your bank, I love it and it makes me feel more secure, a peace of mind. |
