Who Uses A Hair Straighter?

Do you use any product on your hair before or after as a protectant?

Sometimes I use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine, right before, I get really bad flyaways with my hair.
I love my straitener though!

DD uses a Chi flatiron. I buy Herbal Essence Dangerously Straight spray on. It's a protectant and adds shine. About $3-4. a bottle and there's often a $3/2 Herbal Essence products.

I use the Garnier Sleek and Shine as well. Seems to work pretty well so far and I had a coupon for it. My hairdresser uses this Aveda product, but I cannot afford the hair cut and the product

I use a flat iron but nothing with it, I hate for my hair to feel slimy or anything like that so if someone that uses something that doesnt make your hair feel crunchy or greasy from a product I would like to know your favorites. I tryed Samy and Frizz ease Serum and hated them both.

Only silky, softness with the Herbal Essence product. It was recommended to me by a friend with 3 daughters that use flatirons.

OK, please dont fall over laughing at me, but how do you straighten your hair ?? is it like a perm sorta ? I use to have straight as a board hair, till I got it cut at 13 ( it was pass my butt WHY DID I EVER DO THAT ?? ), Since that day till some 25 years later my hair has always be wavy, but my bangs, they are straight.

So how does one straighten their hair ?
TIA

A straightner is like a curling iron except it is flat --people who have natural curly hair uses these to straighten their hair with. Alot of people who have straight hair also uses straighteners it makes their hair appear shiny & sillky.. http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1650/255038

I have straight hair and I use my straightener only when I have alot of fly aways

AHHHH, I see., So I'm also guessing that once you "iron" the hair when you wash your hair it goes back to be wavy or curly again.. Cool product, Never seen that before. I might give it a try one day.

Yes the curls return back to normal once you wash your hair. I bought mine at Sally's Beauty Store ..I paid around $49.00 for mine..I had a cheap one but it really didn't get that hot and it took forever to straighting the hair.

I have to highly recommend the Chi straightener. DD has incredibly thick curly hair and we went through 4 more inexpensive straighteners before the CHI. She loves this one. It is quick, and soooo effective.

I use the Dangerously straight Shampoo & conditioner from Herbal Essences and right before I straighten I use the Dangerously straight straightening spray on my hair. It really keeps my hair straight and nice and soft.

I bought my DD the Chi and and she hated it. She also has very thick hair and said it just would not get it nice and flat and straight. I could not believe it the Chi is almost the hightest rated iron out there. I didn't mind though because it saved me $70, I bought another model at Bed bath and Beyond with a coupon.

Amazon.com: Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron: Health & Personal Care

To Mackeeg, my DD also has thick hair, even after thinning. I really don't think any flat iron could do thick hair. The only way is to do a layer at a time, the way the salon does. DD does only the top layer and it turns out fine. It would take at least half an hour to do all layers.

To Got2save2, your hair had the potential to be wavy all along. However, the weight of the long hair was pulling the curl out.

Thats how she does it, layer by layer it takes her about 20-30.

Do NOT use anything with alcohol in your hair before flat ironing.

I use either Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum before or just use nothing then put my gel on my hair after I am done.

I use the kind that is like a perm. You put it on and brush brush brush to keep it good and straight. I have very thick hair with alot of body/sligh wave to it. After I put the staightener on it it looks and feels so much thinner. I just love my hair just after I have straightened it. It usually lasts, for me, 3 to 4 months. Which saves me SO much time. Plus, when I was using the hot iron staighteners my arms would absolutely kill me the rest of the day from staying above my head for so long.

BTW, I do have colored hair and it doesn't affect that at all.

Another one for the Chi straightner, I love it. I also use their hair serum, I cant think of the name of it right now, but it protects your hair and doesn't leave it greasy at all.

I LOVE the CHI as well! It is more exspensive, but works so much better than the cheaper ones on the market. You plug it in and almost immediately it is HOT. As for the product I use prior to the chi it is called RUSK THERMAL STR8 Ceramic Styling Tools (Protective Flat Iron Spray) It conditions and protects the hair in/externally with Thermaplex heat protection. It leaves hair smooth, silky-soft, sleek & shiny.

My hairdresser recommended this & it makes your hair smell good as well I paid $14 for it from my hairdresser, but the can lasts a really long time. I have thick wavy hair & do it in layers

Just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE the product that I've been using!

It's "Kiwi Coloreflector Blow Silk". My DD and I both have super thick and long hair. We were buying detangler, straightening serums, and de-frizz stuff at least every 6-8 weeks (we live in New Orleans - very humid!).

We've had this 2 oz bottle between the two of us for almost 3 months! You only use 1/2 of a dime size amount on either wet or dry hair. Use it on wet hair and just blow dry with a brush. Use it on dry hair and straighten with an iron.

It doesn't leave your hair feeling heavy or greasy at all. I used the CHI oil and it made me feel dirty all day! You can get it at a salon or do a google search. If they don't have it at the salon, ask your hairdresser if she'll pick one up for you the next time she goes to get products and you'll give her a few dollars on top of the price (usually $9-$10.50 for a 2 oz. bottle). You could probably even check with Sally's if you have one that lets the general public in.

Sorry to go on and on, but I really LOVE the stuff!

even with heat protectant, straightening too much really damaged my hair so i finally took the plunge a few years ago and got the japanese straightening done. i LOVE LOVE LOVE it. perfectly straight hair all the time i use a chi for regrowth between touchups and to smooth ponytails marks and such if it dont have a chance to shower but other than that, my hair is basically perfect air-drying right out of the shower.
