I don't stockpile as much as I used to. Fact is, I don't have time, or energy. Plus sometimes, things would go to waste. I have a bunch of things like shampoo or tolietries, but not as much canned stuff.

I am ashamed to say it but I don't really coupon that much anymore. I need to get back at it again I just need a boost. It's hard when places don't double and triple anymore and they put a limit on the number of coupons for one product you can use.

I really need to start back up though.

I have to admit also....when I first started coming here YEARS ago, I probably had enough bought close to free with coupon that could have fed the kids and me for a year....The last 2 yrs I havent even used a single coupon and have far less in the house....

I am a bit paranoid though and do have a bit of rice and lentils stored in a couple buckets with screw top lids....KIDS would HATE it but wouldn't go hungry for a month or so.... I also sprout and keep lots of sprouting seeds around....POOR kids would have to eat rice, lentils and sprouts.....

i hate having a lot of clutter and a messy pantry so i only stock up on things i know people like and will eat. the rest i skip, even if it's free. we do have a lot of extra toiletries in the bathrooms. I voted for the weeks one, we could probably go a month or so.

I would think we have neough for 3 to 4 months, we have shelving full in the basement and a full pantry upstairs. PLus 2 freezers and a fridge! It might not be everything we like to eat, but we wouldn't starve.

I wonder about this sometimes, what we would do, it would be so unexpected, like 9-11. Do we have everything we would need, no. SHould I get some more supplies? I honestly don't know.

Probably a month or two - but there isn't a response for that!

I've been living out of the stockpile for 2 months. I'm in trouble. I'll be lucky to have meat that will last me this week let alone next week when my son comes back home.

I put that we would be okay for a few weeks. We have a stock pile put not a huge one. It wouldn't help any that my husband and son are really big eatters.

I don't stock pile that much anymore because our home is just too small. We are a family of 6 including a teenage boy so we'd probably only last 3 weeks. We'd be living off oatmeal the entire last week because I have 8 containers of that!

I have not been stockpiling a lot lately either, but have a few things leftover, and my freezer is full of meat -there were some really good sales a few weeks ago, and I stocked up on beef and pork. We wouldn't have any fruits or veggies, and of course the milk would be gone, but we would be able to eat our weight in Bisquick, Hungry Jack pancake mix, and peanut butter. We have several rice mixes and I have tons of stuff for baking. Boy, in case of emergency, my family would REALLY get fat...

I voted 3-4 months but it would probably be more like 3 months and the last two weeks of that would be streching and being really creative!!

We could survive about 3 months with the food we have. We might be eating canned olives and canned fruit but we would have sustenance.

we'd be okay for a few months. We've been living out of our stockpile for a month now. I'm only doing the far and vegetables and milk runs..

It depends on how long my kids would eat dry cereal after the milk ran out. Realistically we could probably last a few weeks. We wouldn't be eating that well, but at least we'd be eating. I have quite a bit of cereal and frozen food, but we don't eat a lot of canned food, except for soup, so I don't really stock-up on things like that.

I second the oatmeal. I have about 10 containers of that right now. Lots of odds and ends stuff. We would probably make it maybe 6 months before there was NOTHING to eat.

I used my 1st coupon in over a year this week. However, I have stocked pile ton's of can goods and frozen veggies. I dont stock pile alot of things like sugar, flour, corn meal, rice. So I could deff be in trouble with that. My Freezer is pretty full with meats esp chicken breast patties. ( real breast patties )

but if it came down to having a major event, we could and would get by with 6 months or better, I wouldnt fix a complete meal ( meat, bread, 2 veggies ).. I would however, fix a meal like a breast patty for each one and open 1 can to be shared by the kids and DH.

We would be in trouble with water/ drinks/ household goods. This is what would be the end of us if we didn't have fresh drinking water.

Hey but again LOL. I keep at elast 4 bags of ice on hand, could just melt the ice down- bottle it to be used when we had to have a drink.

I dont see any problems with us getting by at least 6 months, I have 3 5' 1/2 foot cabinets full of every kind of can good you can think of.

Keep some cans of evaporated milk in your stockpile along with some sweetened condensed milk.
Even if you don't eat canned foods keep some things high in protein: enrgy bars, beans, tuna, nut butters, canned meats. Some canned fruits, and other things. Keep gallons of water as you will not only need it to drink but to clean yourselves and to flush the toilet if water is not working. You will need some disinfectants and some plastic bags. Keep gloves in your home also because in an emergency there my be blood and filth.

If you don't use the food after so many months give it to the food bank in your town.

If the world was ending... what would the point of extending the inevitable? I'd rather go quickly. I'm not trying to be a smart aleck; this is honestly how I feel.

But, to answer the question, we have a couple of weeks worth of food.

I didn't say the world was ending...just the end of the world as we know it now.... So maybe everyone is ok, but no more transportation and food can't get to the grocery stores.... I'll share my lentils...

edited to add....I'm with you though, if living means having a horrible scary existance I want to go first!! But if it only meant going back to like the olden days (think little house on the prarie) I want to live!!!!

The world might not be necessarily ending it might just be a situation where you have to take care of your own family for a while. Would you feel horrible if you had to survive holed up in your home and someone died simply because there weren't enough provisions?
Think of the people in Katrina. The world had not ended at all they just needed to have water, food, and hygiene to get them through.
If the world is ending then you're right what's the use anyway?

I think we would be ok for ummm indefinitely. We have two freezers crammed full of meat and veggies. We get our milk from my husband's cousin's dairy. We have a pig now to butcher plus wild ones very near by. We live in a farming area so lots of grain. We also live on the river. I am pretty sure we could make out for a long time. We also have some chickens... forgot about them. Ya'll are all invited over for scrambled eggs, milk, and bacon if you get hungry lol.

I’d check the newspaper for the “End of The World Sale “ sales ad than buy what’s on sale.

You know I forgot to add about having things in the car. I drive around the county for my job so I keep bottles of water and a supply of energy bars. I keep two file box size totes and a tote bag as well as emergency dog kibble. One is filled with bottles of water. The other has toilet paper, lysol wipes, first aid kit, emergency rain ponchos, matches, notebook, pens, blankets, shoes and socks, and some other things like saline for my contacts. I also keep a walkman and a small portable tv in there.
I have always kept "emergency supplies" in my car however after what happened to the Kim family here in Oregon last year I made sure to update everything and I always check before going anywhere to make sure I have everything.
Especially if you are travelling with your family, please make sure that you have food and water. I don't mean to sound callous but I don't think that would ever happen to an Italian family. We pack a picnic lunch to go to the store for milk and I could not imagine anyone in my family going for a long car ride without supplies.

I forgot to say: candles, batteries, flashlights.

I have to agree here. But seriously, we might have enough for a couple weeks. I just don't do the stockpiling thing anymore, although I would be wise to. When I did, alot of it was wasted.

I have quite a bit stockpiled. I'd say sides, snacks, toiletries we could go for about 6 months. Meats (chickens, beef, pork and lamb....we live on a farm) we're good for over a year.

If we didn't lose power then we could go a long time. I have a packed freezer. If all that frozen stuff was lost then we would not eat very healthy.

I probably would start my nervous nibbling and go thru all the good snacks fast!
