I don't have a "disaster" kit but we are prepared to live if we were to get snowed in or a gas crisis hit and we couldn't get to a store. We have: food: dry goods plus 3-4 months worth of frozen meat and veggies in the fridge (we get it delivered every 6 months and I supplement it as well). I got kids snacks coming out the wazoo! Water: CASES of it. I also have powdered milk to make milk for cereal if we wanted to use it Juice boxes and bottles, booze (we like to have parties so always have a lot and it can be used medicinally if need be) Batteries, blankets, sleeping bags, extra propane (for grill), coals (for smaller grill), radio, cash (fair amount so I'm not penniless if I can't get to a bank). We also kept the "training toilet" that is portable. If water goes out you don't want #2's collecting in an unflushed toilet. You can dig a hole and bury it. Oh yeah, I always have a case of toilet paper and paper towels

sexysmurf is prepared!!! OK so my point of the other post...I go to some prepper/conspiracy board and its DOOM event after DOOM event, each week the end of the world is here!!! (its fun to read)...LOL anyways, I can see the point of being prepared and I try to be somewhat.....I watch that show Jericho and think MY GOSH I think it would be worse than they are showing...in weeks most people will have nothing to eat!! Water: I dont have THAT much stored...only about 20 gallons....Which gets used from time to time...towns water will get brown sometimes and its nice to have gallons to use...I replace what I use....edited to add, the reason I stopped storing more water, my brother lives outside of town a mile or so and has a HAND pump well on his property...we'll just go there if needed....could walk! Candles, batteries, flashlights......OK so I probably have enough candles to give me light for the next 10 years...not because I like to be prepped but because I have a candle addiction...works out good...I actuallt dont have any spare batteries and one crank flashlight my dad gave me......Also one of those solar/crack/battery radio/lamp....... THE ONLY thing I can think of that I'm BAD about is toilet paper.... like right now we're all out and using a box of tissues...I KEEP forgetting!!!! I also have this thing about SEEDS....sprouting seeds and growing vegetable seeds.....I have a huge box of seeds from the last couple years.....Spring time I'll buy a bunch for the garden and a bunch to tuck away.....YES I'm a freak....LOL but at least I could grow a garden!!! OH and the MOST important I maybe dont have....is defense a gun, which I guess doesn't matter that I got all these things...someone only needs one of those and take it all away from me |

I'm sunk. I don't have much room nor the inclination to create a plan. Part of the problem is that I live within 45-60 miles of 2 nucelar power plants, I figure we'll be hit fairly early and I'll die anyways.

After Katrina we have decided that if/when we ever have to evacuate EVERYONE will have copies of EVERYONE else's pertinent information. When kids got separated from parents and because of age or slang or whatever they did not know their parent's full names, family names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. that kind of freaked me out. My 10 year old will have an easy to carry packet with her with copies of mine and dh's license, Social Security cards, all of our birth certs and an address list with every phone number and cell phone number I can come up with. I would rather risk having my identity stolen that having my child lost.
