| Can you help save Trevor Kott?
I have been reading about a 6 month old baby boy, who needs a bone marrow transplant in order to be given a chance at life. The family has tried very hard to find someone that matches to no avail. I thought some may be interested in reading about him, donating bone marrow or just saying a prayer for this family. I hope lots of people see this post and act on it. Bone marrow donation is one of the best gifts you can give another human being-and you get to experience the joy of knowing you did something wonderful & miraculous to help another person. I know first hand because I was a bone marrow donor for my brother last year(he has AML). We were fortunate to be a perfect match and his transplant went great-and his marrow has stayed clear ever since. As a donor, I was amazed with the ease & minimal pain of the whole experience. You are put under general anesthesia for the procedure,so you feel nothing and you are given pain medication for afterward. Truthfully,I only took pain meds for 2 days. The marrow was harvested from my hips, which left only 2 small spots where they went in the same spots over &over to retrieve marrow. The pain I felt was minimal, I'd say it was more discomfort- like being stiff & sore- as if you'd had a slip and fall. That lasted a few weeks(moreso the stiffness, not the pain). I remember when I first found out I was the donor,my husband joked with me because i'm a "sissy" when it comes to pain, but I have to admit,it really wasn't that bad. I'd seen things on TV shows about bone marrow surgery & it looked so horrific and scary,I thought it was something I could never do, but I'm proud to say I did.

I can't stop crying. This mother has to be the strongest woman I know. The way that she handles this and looks to the bright side is amazing. Her statement that it is not about her, it is about him.......such a wonderful woman. My thoughts and prayers are with this entire family.

Wow, what a heartbreaker...What a sweet little guy....My heart is aching quite a bit right now for their family. Just sending out a LOT of prayers. I know a little bit about what they have been going through these last few mos., but our pain was nothing compared to the challenge that they had. It's just so damned sad.................. My son had Leukemia when he was 5 (luckily a much "nicer" form, ALL) and I put myself on the donor list (as did DH and close friends). Luckily we never needed a match for DS. Please, please put yourself on the list when you have the chance. It is free for minorities and about $30 for Caucasians. I got a letter one time because I was a possible match but then they found a better one. I would have loved to be a good match! I feel so bad for the family of this little guy! I hope they have a lot of support. |
