SaraBeth - thanks! re DirecTV.......

I read your post about calling DirecTV and getting them to drop your bill by $10 a month for 12 months.

I figured it couldn't hurt to try.... so I just called and they agreed to lower my bill by $9 a month for 6 months (and they said to call back in 6 months and they would "probably" continue the reduction for another 6 months

Thanks a lot for posting

We have Directv, pay 57 a month with 3 receivers and only have basic line-up, no movies or HD. Maybe I will call about a reduction

I pay 100 a month, but have 2 dvr boxes, 1 basic box, and every channel you can probably name. We have to have the 2 boxes tho.

After our discount of $10 a month we pay $55.00 after taxes. We have two boxes, one of which is a TiVo.

(The Tivo is $5 the extra box is $5, so with just one box and the choice package of channels we would pay $10 less.)

For us, Dish Network is $41 a month. We have 2 receivers, 100 channels (base rate of $30), and added in the locals and Fox Sports... not sure about additional receivers.

We don't do DVR, etc.

I can't imagine having to call to get lower rates which is what we always had to do with DirecTV... finally got tired of that game and so we changed to Dish and have liked it so much more.

I wish that we only had to buy the channels that we wanted.... I have directTv and pay about $112 mo. after a $10 discount but we have all the channels except Cinemax (which is $20-25 more a month i think) and we have the dvr. I hate paying that amount of money for TV

We have had satellite TV since the 1990's. Back in those days, you only paid for the channels that you wanted -- it was ala carte. It was a lot cheaper (I think that we paid around $15 a month!) BUT the equipment was close to $500!

Thing is, they'll get their money somehow. Sad.

We pay $79 a month for DirecTV for two TiVo's, two local channels and the Total Choice package with HBO/Cinemax.

We have Dish Network and love it! We pay $24.99/month but we just have the family package w/local channels. We get about 40 channels plus 7 local ones. Sure beats trying to adjust the rabbit ears which is what we had been doing for 3 years yuck! Right now they are offering $10 off a month for 10 months on packages $29.99 and higher.
