Need some prayers for my SIL

Please everyone pray for my SIL. She's been in the hospital for a week now with a merca(sp?) staph infection. She is extremely ill and they said that she probably had it for six months at least and didn't know it. They told her that the reason she had never gotten really sick was because it was contained in her bladder and had not made it to he bloodstream but there is still a possibility that it might. They gave her an antibiotic yesterday that caused her veins to "blow out" so they were forced to put a central unit in her neck to give her medicine. Her white blood cell count keeps rising every day. On top of that sh has a protuding disc in her back that they say if it ruptures it will leave her paralyzed but they told her they couldn't do surgery on it until her white blood count went down. My brother is so worried about her and he's also out of work right now so I don't know how they are going to survive with all the bills. If every one could please just send a prayer their way I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Kim

So sorry to hear about your SIL. I hope everything goes ok and they're able to get her white count down and do the necessary surgery on her back. Your family will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted.

Thank you all for your kindness. My SIL is only 35 yrs old and the type of staph she has is the really nasty kind that usually runs rampant in nursing homes. She is a radiologist at a hospital and they said that she probably x-rayed an elderly person who had it then forgot to wash her hands before she went to the restroom so the infection settled in her bladder. She has to hve the central unti in her neck for three weeks then they will hopefully take it out but then she has to start a different antibiotic. They're having a very rough time.
Thanks again everyone for your kind words

Hugs Kim ~

My brother had this staph but his was pneumonia. It is MRSA - Methacillin resistant staph auerus. He was burned in a work exposion - spent 8 days with a trach in a burn unit - came to stay with me and ended up being readmitted 2 weeks later with the pneumonia. She is young and hopefull will fight it off too.

Will keep you all in my prayers.

I saw my brother today and he said her white blood count is finally dropping and the staph is now undetectable in a culture but they told him it was still there it just wouldn't culture. She is finally starting to feel better which makes me feel a WHOLE lot better. I was so worried about her!! I'm still worried about them both with all the bills and everything. She does have insurance but my brother is still unemployed and with her being on short term disability she only gets 80% of her pay and after so many weeks it drops to 40%. I just pray that she makes a full recovery and that my brother finds a job in his field soon so they won't have to struggle with bills.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers!! I think they helped!!

Oh wow MRSA is not fun nor is its sister VRE, I almost died from the latter from a kidney stone and infection. With her working in a hospital she can be exposed to MRSA easily not only old people get it those with compromised immune systems can get it. My medical record is actually marked MRSA so I get a private room everytime I am admitted and everyone has to go through isolation precautions until the MRSA and VRE swabs come back negative and the VRE never seems to I always seem to have a little bit of it and have to take the $108 pills. I guess what I am trying to say is can her being a Hospital Radiology Worker and diagnosed with MRSA affect whether she will be allowed to go back to work at all? Thats something the infectious disease nurse/co-ordinator can tell her. It worries me to hear when another person is so ill with something like this I was in her shoes before and its not easy to come back from. Will say prayers add her to a prayer group I belong to and keep your SIL in my thoughts.

Thank you all. She was feeling much better as of yesterday. I'm not sure about today because they were able to go ahead and do the back surgery since her blood count finally went down and the infection is still not culturing. They said the reason she was in so much pain with her back was because she had nerves wrapped around the protruding disc. When i spoke with my brother she had not woke up yet but he said that the surgery went fine.
As far as her being able to go back to work, she was told by the hospital that she works at that she would be allowed to return to work but you never know they may change their mind. I just hope that everything continues to get better. I will let you all know how she is after my brother calls me and gives me another update.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers. You all are a great group of people.
