Poll: Has there been a bomb threat near you?

With the other post about bomb threats I was wondering how many there have been in the past few weeks around the nation.

Yes. Murrieta, Ca.

When i was going to usm - this last fall- we were having them almost every couple of weeks. it got to the point where the higher ups decided it was no longer necessary to evactuate and search ( at the disapproval of many of hte students including myself).

Same deal at the high school I teach at - some kids from our school, some kids from other schools kept calling in at the beginning of the school year. Now we just ignore the calls VS. spending tons of $$$ on bomb squad searches and lost classroom hours. I didn't feel actually in danger though - as one of my students said, "If I really wanted to bomb the school I sure wouldn't call and tell them>"

Yes, there have been 2 since the VT shootings. One at the high school and the following week at the elementary school, both on my road, less than a mile in opposite directions just south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!

yes, but we had them before the VT incident...so I can't say we have seen an increase.

Yes at my son's high school last week. They went all out too, the school was locked down the local and Michigan State Police came in and they dumped every single locker. My son was questioned because he matched the description of "male, tall, dark hair, blue shirt" (which also fit the description of over 100 other students that were questioned). The kids were scared and were calling their parents on their "forbidden to bring to school cell phones".

This was not a bomb threat, it was a gun threat.

The high school my son went to had one last week. A freshman did it as a joke (wrote it on the bathroom wall) but the security cameras spotted him. Also I heard thru the family grapevine that my cousin made some threats at his school and is expelled (hiding my head in shame over that one).

My oldest boys HS had one on 4-20. Some Einstien wanted a day off so he wrote 'At 9:00 a.m. on 4-20 the school will blow up'. That was the fourth time the police had been to the school that week. First time a teachers mentally distrubed son entered the school through a door that was supposed to be locked, second and third were someone video taping the building. This is a safer then average community so everyone was up in arms over the handling of the situation.

You know, I hadn't even read this post because I thought, 'no, that stuff doesn't happen here.' Well, it happened today. There are 4 high schools in our district and it's the 2nd closest one to us. They were under lockdown for a while and then dismissed early.

You know, I don't know what they can do about this. They have to take threats seriously, but they can't just close school everytime one happens....why are people like that?
