Question Need Help....BBQ

I love pulled portk BBQ. For years, I have lived on a farm and kill our own hogs, etc. We still go to the cannery and string & pull our pork and can it so it's ready to use when we open the can. But the days of farming are nearing an end and it got me to thinking.......How do you make your pulled pork BBQ?

What meat do you buy? I mean like the whole loin, or stir fry selection, etc. Then what do you do with it? I guess I am trying to get at, how do you get the 'stringed' consistency?

Thanks and I look forward to getting your ideas.

I actually made this by accident a couple weeks ago. I was making BBQ's pork ribs. Not sure what kind they were, just the same kind I always buy....you know, the ribs, and they fold them over t fit in the pack. Anyway, I put them in the crock pot, NO SAUCE or anything, all day, and let them cook. When they are done, I drain all the juice and grease out, and add a bottle of BBQ sauce, and let it cook longer. WEll, this particular time, the meat was falling off the bone, so I just went ahead and pulled it all off the bones (it was stringy, that's just the type of meat this was, I guess) and removed any grissle/cartlidge and fat parts. Then kind of mashed it up a little with a fork, and added the BBQ sauce and let it cook for like an hour or two more, just to soak in the BBQ sauce. It was really good.

HTH.

I cook a Boston Butt in the crock pot, comes out wonderfully tender. I let it cool a little, then shred it by fork/fingers. It's very yummy!

We had a family reunion today and thats what we cooked on Saturdays!! (its a yearly tradition) Instead of putting it in the ground, b/c their is no digging at the cabins/or the campground, We build a oven out of concrete blocks and some type of metal table to sit on top of the blocks.
We just buy a whole pig, gutted, and cook in it that all night friday and most of the day Saturday! YUMMY!!!

We use boston butt or pork shoulder. Put in the crockpot with water overnight or 10 hours or so. Take out, shred and remove fat etc...put back in the crockpot (after dumping out the water!) and add your favorite barbeque sauce. Cook on low another few hours and "pig" out!

It is SO yummy, nice and tender...delish!

If I'm at Costco I buy the pork loin, if I'm at the grocery store I just buy the cheapest "hunk of pig" I can find. Throw it in the crockpot on low all day with a little water and about 1/2 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's. It gets to the point that it's falling apart so all I do is pull it apart with a couple of forks and add another 1/2 - 1 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's (depending on how much pig is in there!) and leave it in with the lid on for another 15 min or so to warm the sauce up.
