Will This be a Fun Wedding Reception?

I talked to my SIL and learned that her wedding reception will consist of a string quartet for the music background entertainment. I asked about later in evening, thinking they were having a dj or live dance music, and she said there isn't going to be any, just the string quartet. It's going to be a small wedding with only around 55 guests, but 20 will be children. I mentioned that kids really do like to dance at receptions and it really is entertaining. It's her wedding and that is how she wants it, she tells me. She said they're thinking about hiring a magician to come for awhile to entertain the kids.

Sounds definitely classy but maybe a little dull?

No dancing means you have to socialize, one on one or in a conversation group. Sounds like fun to me!! I must ask though, 35 adults and 20 children?? Very interesting.....

Yes, it's going to be all socializing. Hopefully good conversation. I am told that her closest friends all have children and she has a daughter, and then there are my kids, so around 19 or 20 children.

It will probably be a lot of fun. Since it's going to be a small wedding, most everyone will probably know each other. Look at it this way...it's her wedding and this is what she wants! Enjoy yourself to the fullest!

This is a bit how my wedding was and people still talk about how nice it was. We had about 200 people and several of my friends (I am active in community theater so I know many WONDERFUL singers) sang and the String Quartet was also wonderful.

We got to talk to our guests and they talked to each other. It was nice.

Sounds like my wedding, except mine had just a piano player and it was during the day. I had about eight children in and at my wedding. I made up gift bags for each of them. They had crayons, coloring books, small toys and the girls got a doll.

We had a trio at ours and had a lovely time. I'm impressed that she's including all those children. That seems like a very gracious thing to do!

My children would be doing ballet in the middle of the room. Kids dance to the tune in their heads, it'll be fun!

Same here. we got lots of compliments on it, too. Everyone else in my family had a big huge affair with a live band and dancing 'til midnight. Everyone assumed I would do the same but DH and I wanted a much simpler party and it was lovely.
