Wink What do you miss? (Dieting)

I'm not sticking to a particular diet, but I am trying to eat more healthy. Fat free, low/no trans fats, cut down on sweets (splenda when I can), and no soft drinks. But I don't really feel deprived. If I want something, I have it, just not as much as usual and that's the treat for the day.

So far I've lost 11 lbs!

My problem with it is this: I really miss having my Cokes! I'd only drink one or two cans a day (sometimes more sometimes less), but I'm finding that I'm craving the bubbles!

I was a smoker for 11 1/2 years and I quit cold turkey. No cravings. No need. No withdrawals. But I feel like I NEED the Coke! Could it be that Cokes are more addictive than cigarettes (in my case they must be!)?

Just wondering if anybody else has given up something for diets or for health or for other reasons and really misses it? What do you do to turn your head the other way?

If there ever was a Coke addict I'm it. I drink a 2 liter every day, it's the only thing I drink. I have tried many ways and many times to stop drinking them and I cannot do it. Even when I get past the first few days of no caffine headache. I still find myself just really yearning for a Coke. I quite ridiculous really. I'm sure I would feel so much better to not be drinking so much sugar. Not to mention the weight I could lose.

Other than Cokes, I do like you it sounds like. Nothing really fatty and just eating sensibly.

You can drink Coke with Splenda. It may taste a little different at first but you get the bubbles after a while you won't be able to stand regular coke - it's sickeningly sweet.

A few years ago we completely changed the way we eat - no red meat, low fat, no sugar, no white flour etc I'd say it was difficult for the first 3-6 months but now the benefits so out way the cravings that it's easy I'd never go back.

I think our biggest quilty little crave was really crappy pizza - think Domino's so we would use that as a splurge about once a month. After several months the last one we got just sat there so we've never ordered it again.

Another Coke-a-holic here!
I have cut down and hope to get to only one a day.
DH has had to give up salt so we are eating healthier now.
But I really, really miss PIZZA!

I used to drink TWO 2-liters a day - and that was with cutting myself off at 10-11am! It was store brand diet, I think diet is even worse than regular because I could not drink (or, did not WANT to drink) that much regular soda. Now I only have soda when we go out or when my husband buys some because he wants something other than water to drink. I did crave one this morning but I didn't want to go buy one... probably because we bought sodas this weekend.

Ice cream and chocolate of any kind. Might have to breakedown and buy some chocolate because I have a one free Hersey coupon and it is for the chocolate that is good for you! Isn't nice to know that some chocolate is good for you? But what does it taste like???

Congrats on stopping smoking! that is fantastic. DH stopped a year ago and I couldn't be prouder of him.

I'm a vegetarian, and I eat lots of fruit and veggies, but I have to control my bread and pasta cravings.

Here's a trick a friend of mine uses: She gets soda water and adds just a little bit of orange juice to it. She gets the bubbles, a little sweetness, but no where near the amount she got when she drank coke all day long. It might be worth a try for you.

I really don't like water, so I make my own soda. Take Seltzer water and add a tube of Crystal Light (or knock-off)- there are all kinds of interesting flavors. I also have not had one piece of chocolate since 3/29. That is quite an accomplishment for me

"Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels."... that was my mantra when I lost weight in my 30's. Now, I'm in my 40's and can't get motivated again... Meanwhile, I did gain it all back so it must have tasted better then being thin felt! Ha ha.

When I diet, I crave peanut butter. Don't ask me why because I don't crave it otherwise.

I dont drink much soda so nope dont miss it, never ate much fast food, so dont miss it..... I CRAVE seafood and sushi....probably like the peanut butter my body wants protein maybe....

Ive been dieting now since Dec(ish) and been stuck at the same weight all this month!! I hate that!! I dont think I can ever get past this little weight goal....(a couple more lbs and it will be in the numbers I havent seen since having kids....)

I dont really have cravings except for some good food (beer battered onion rings) but I am trying to lose weight before my DH gets home. I figure I have 3 weeks without him trying to sabotage my dieting, he's in Idaho right now so I started to exercise and Im actually drinking (drumroll please) WATER. I am a Dr. Pepper addict. So its kinda hard, but I hope I can stick with it.

Fluffy white bread with butter. OK, it hasn't been that long since I've had it, but I still miss it.

For those watching what they eat and love peanut butter, check this site.

Bell Plantation - PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter - Our Products

They have powdered peanut butter that you mix with water. It is very low in fat and calories. They are a little backlogged on orders as they are the talk of lots of dieting boards. Worth the wait! LOL

strangely enough, just portion size. usually i am full with a smaller portion, but sometimes i just really feel like eating a big bowl or plate of something !! i dont absolutely restrict anything which is probably why i dont really crave much, but if i do it is something dessert related.
