Talking WOW, I got invited to a *Appreciation Breakfast * at my kids school

WOWZA, I'm in total shock,. as much as I have supported their school Thur the last 5 years, I have never even heard of this before today.

In all honesty I have done WAY more in the past years then this year..

Wonder what this would be like ? has anyone here ever been invited to their Child(rens) school for this ?

I'm HONOR they asked me, but kinda of confused why this year ? and not the others .. All I did this year was donate about 3000 Beaded necklaces to the Pre-k, a few field trips and Snacks to the classrooms. Nothing to compare to the past years. Odd, But I'm completely honor to be asked just the same.

DD is in 8th grade and I've been invited every year since Kindegarten. Perhaps your childs teacher in previous years never turned your name in. There isn't a volunteer reception after the 6th grade, at least not in our district. Gee, I guess this means since DS is in 6th grade, this is the last year for me even though I volunteer at DD's jr. high.
In K-4 elementary and 5-6 middle school, we attend Rise and Shine where the students honor the volunteers and afterwards there's a reception. There's usually coffee, punch, cake or cookies and some finger foods. Maybe a bookmark or certificate of some kind.

WOW, This sounds like a ton of fun.
I really didn't do that much this year, mainly to having all 4 of the kids in school and trying to divide my time between the 2 schools and 4 classrooms.

Oh I c, So it's the teachers that turn the name in. Thats so Odd, because it was my 2nd grader that brought me the invite, I didn't do much for his classroom at all, I attended 2 field Trips and gave the classroom snacks a few times this year, Plus candy and beads for for their Mardi Gras march.
Well it's all good, at least I know the Teacher appreciated my time and helping when I could. It's nice to know it was noticed.

At our school, your name needs to be turned in BY the teacher in order to be invited. I think that you should have been invited EVERY year. I should have been invited this year but wasn't. Oh well. I have other fun plans and really only volunteer because I want to; not because I need the recognition.

It is too bad that teachers don't just invite anyone who has helped even a little bit but maybe sometimes, they get busy and overlook sending out the invitations to all who should be honored.

Way to go! Have fun.

In every school I have had my children, the teacher of the student does the inviting/recommending. I volunteered a LOT in my kids' schools--and appreciated being recognized when I was, but definitely did not volunteer and donate for the recognition. I believe that volunteering is always in the best interest of your child. Can't hurt to have your child's teachers know that you care so much about your child that you will give your time or whatever donations (money, goods, party food) you can. That way I believe that your interest and respect for your child should garner the same from them.

Ours is this morning, I have a french toast strata in the oven as I type this. Anyway, at our school we invite any volunteer with more than 2 hours of volunteer time.

I wish the school I teach at now did that... All they give is a certificate (I am saving them for the end of the year ceremony). I may give something small to several of the parents who really have saved my hide
