Lazy, Busy Mom Help

Yes, that's me! Mom of three, very busy but very lazy when it comes to reading. My son who has reading comprehension problems, he's under the autism spectrum but high functioning, has to read books at school like every child. I want to question him about the books he's reading but I do not want to read the book. Is there a website that gives maybe chapter by chapter info about books? Right now he's reading Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder and I started reading it as well but I have laundry, dishes, vacuum, other children, calling me, never mind that I work full time as well. I have noticed that when I do read the book he reads and I question him, the main topic of the chapter is not retained and we go over the chapter together. This is the first year he's mainstreamed into a regular reading class. So where is the magical website?!!

Sorry, I don't know of any websites. If he can draw maybe you can have him draw, or write a short summary , or even record a short summary of what he has read and then look at the pictues, or listen to his recording before he begins to read so he can pick up and continue to comprehend what's going on in the story.

To get a short, general idea about the book, go to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles websites. They will have reviews of the book plus a summary. Here is a website I found about the book
Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder - Google Book Search

It looks like this book is part of a cute series of books.

Good Luck!

I am in the exact same boat as you. My 5th grade son (who is also on autism spectrum) has to read books for a class. I have had to read the book right along with him, and help him with the chapter questions. His comprehension level he struggles with, and it is necessary for me to read along and break it down. The book usually is good, but I really don't have time either.

Could your son read a bit to you while you work? That way, he could help keep you entertained (much better than doing it like homework), and you could hear what he sounds like, and have some idea about the books. Reading aloud can also help some people retain information better, but it doesn't work like that for everyone.
