You would have to pay me to shop at Walmart and it would have to be millions of dollars.

I like Super Walmart for one-stop shopping (grocery, etc.). We do not have Super Target here. We have a small Target and I can never find what I want. Prices are better on everyday items at Walmart then Target.

I always see more people in Walmart then Target so wondering about the poll results on the thread? At this point, Target is way ahead.

Maybe it is because of where I live.

Target, but Wal-Mart's open all night, so I tend to go there, since I work nights.

I think a lot of people like the clearance sales at Target. If we were talking regular price items it might be different.

cool article they compare target and walmart prices.
Thanks for the link, it was quite interesting. I found this quote in there: "
At one time, Walmart had a reputation for only selling items that were made in the United States. I'm not sure when that policy changed, but I'm sure they didn't put out a press release about it."

I was recently thinking the SAME thing!!! I've really been trying to pay good attention to where things I buy are made.

Personally, I prefer Target. Most Wal-Marts I have been in smell, are loaded with too many people, and not enuf cashiers. I don't like having to wade thru all the junk all over the place to get where I want to go.

ETA: I find better quality of clothes at Target than Wal Mart. Also, I don't find their prices to be much higher than Wal-Mart, and honestly, I'll pay the difference to shop in cleanliness without so many people.

I do like their clearance sales, but, don't run out to Target when I read about a good deal there. My vote (for Target) was based on everyday shopping prices

I've only been in Walmart 3 times. I hated it. It was very confusing. Aisles leaded into shelves. The shelves were too high. Smelly and floors were really dirty. This was 3 different Walmarts in 2 different states. I thought the clothing seemed cheap.

I voted for Target since I go there weekly. I go for clearance deals. I like their clothing. It lasts. I'll buy milk on occasion but I love my grocery store and double coupons for food.

What about Kmart and Big Lots? I haven't been in them in years. I went to a GTM for the 1st time last week, That was fun. Costco clearance but you really need to know your prices.

I have a brand new Wal-Mart located across the street from a Target and Kmart. I have never had a bad experience at the Target or Walmart (Kmart is a whole other story). I tend to like Wal-Mart better.

I love Target but lately the deals (for me) are not there but at Walmart. I can't wear Walmart clothes (I'm fat not old and fat) and at times the crowds do bother me. Unfortunately all the WM are being changed to SWM, wonder how that will affect my grocery shopping?

I like Target better. The only thing that I got to walmart for is my yarn. I feel the quality of the clothes is better and I enjoy the shopping experience more.

Our Target is way cleaner and less crammed with stuff. I hate feeling like I am running an obstacle course when I got to Walmart.

I LOVE Target's clearance sales. In fact, that is almost all that I buy if/when I do go to Target! I always find something that we *need* at Target clearance. Edited to say... usually only one or two things.

For everything else that I'm paying full price on, I go to Super Walmart. mainly because Target doesn't have everything and it is so much easier to have everything right there!

Also edited to say... I voted for Walmart.

I used to shop Target for their clearance. Lately, there hasn't been enough clearance items to get me to go there weekly.

I shop at WalMart every weekend - for groceries, clothes, hardware, health and beauty, etc. etc. etc.
My time is too valuable to shop several different stores trying to get an item for a few cents less. And the cost of gas is prohibitive. I can get everything I need at one place so that's where I go. I've never had a problem with my WalMart. Friendly cashiers, floor people who go out of their way to help find something, customer service people are polite. So WalMart gets my vote.

Wal-Mart gets my vote for pricing!

Lately, our Wal-mart has been very clean and the staff very friendly. Normally I go first thing in the morning, so prior to this change, it didn't really affect me. (Most people don't go to SWM at 7:00 am for grocery shopping).

I have been to Target in the last two months, but left with nothing. The prices were too high and clearance was almost non-existent (sp?)

I used to be a walmart gal, but the people they hire in our local Super Walmart are not the ppl I want to be around. I am not saying that I have a perfect life with no problems but, I think there are somethings that customers should not have to listen to. NO FLAMES HERE......please its just that at this Walmart these are some of the conversations I have heard and my children have heard.

1. Hey girl, is youse baby daddy still f@#$%ing you around with money.

2. I love to stick my D in that. (2 guys talking about a customer and she totally heard it and started screaming at both of them, It was great)

3. No I don't know where that s#@$ goes, do it yourself.

4. These stupid MF customers always bothering me when Im trying to work.

This is a nice part of town. I can only imagine what is being talked about in the walmarts in the bad side of town. I am not joking, I will go in there if I don't have my kids, cause I will rip you a new one if you are talking like that in front of me. But, I am not going to risk a head to head confrontation with my kids there. I know, I have been to the manager but he doesn't care. He has actually asked me what would you like me to do about it!

We have a couple of Super Targets here and I'm loving it!! Nice ppl working, No horrible conversations to listen to. I am a target gal now.

I remember a few years back (maybe more than a few, okay), in one of my college classes, we had Target representative in management speak to our class. From all the obvious things about Target like organization, cleanliness, helpful employees. etc, there was something very inviting about Target. None of us knew what he was getting at, but the answer is lighting. Target has wonderful lighting, that is bright and inviting. If you compare the lighting to Walmart or Kmart, there is no comparison. They seem to have dim lights that make the store much less inviting and dingy-looking (besides the fact that they are dingy). Interesting.

Okay class, that's your Target 101 lesson for today!

hmm walmart must be different in some places. ours is airy, open, very clean, not at all crowded and the people are extremely helpful and friendly. i actually had to make two returns this week, one to target and one to walmart, and the walmart people were a lot easier.

the customers at walmart are all regular suburban polite people. our target actually has more annoying customers b/c it's nearer to the colleges and full of teenagers acting stupid.

i think it probably depends a lot of hte particular target and walmart in your town.

Here is another Target fact they cater (or used to) to middle class women, I don't think that color played into the factor. My brother worked in the grocery section of a new super target a couple of years ago while he was going to college and he said that in their training that something like 75% of their clientele was a women who's household income was over 60,000 dollars a year. Now that was for jacksonville florida. I think the facts would differ in different parts of the country that has a higher or lower cost of living. It is interesting all the marketing research that these companies do for their clients.

I totally agree with you on that one. I will pay more to shop at Target because it's such a better atmosphere and shopping experience. I come out of Super WalMart feeling like a need valium or a stiff drink <lol>. I only go to Super Walmart if I can't find what I'm looking for at another B&M store and I am fairly sure that SW will sell it. If you have a Super Target that is near a Super Walmart, the Target prices will probably be adjusted to be close to or less than SW.

Target opened last year within driving distance. I have to pass Target to get to Walmart. Target's prices are much higher than Walmarts everyday prices. I always said, if I need something and can't wait for a sale I will go to Walmart, and that is still true. Target's sale prices are often still higher than Walmart's regular prices.

Ditto.
For me, I will pay the higher prices if the service is good, the store is clean, it's convenient and I can find what I want (whether it's the style of clothing or type of furniture other goods) . I have found that in Target, not Walmart.

Totally agree with you. Target is a NICE shopping experience. If you can't find something a Target employee will TAKE you to the item, not just point and grunt as the WM employees tend to do, that is IF you can find one to ask.

I just get a bad vibe from Walmart and not from Target. I do go to the Super WM occasionally, but not that often. Even our new SWM is dirty already.

Target wins here! Wal-mart is too far to drive to for me and with the price of gas what it is, I will not be saving anything.

I do shop at Wal-mart in the summer when we go to NC, Boone, because Target hasn't made it to Boone yet! I like the Wal-mart there better than the one in Miami. I know it's the people in Boone they are so damn nice that you have to like them!

A footnote about Wal-mart they just hired some bigwig from Target , read this in my dh Business Week, so I guess Wal-mart will be changing. I do agree the lighting in the store is horriable and Target is always clean and neat.

Thanks for reminding me...the SWM here has lighting that always makes me feel woozy when I shop there. I don't know what it is. Way low. Target is nice and bright.

At my local Walmart it seems that the only people who are not "on break" are the cashiers (the ones at a register), the lone customer service desk girl and the greeters. Oh wait, there is always one girl in the craft department and one guy at the ready to mix paint. If you see a blue smock just roaming the floor at our store don't bother asking for help...they are on break, on their way to break, etc. The CS is so bad that I have given up all hope of actually getting someone to help me. So I shop WM when I know what I am going for.

Now the local Targets are way different. Just the other day I had 3 people in electronics alone ask me if I needed help. Yep, I need to know where all the clearance is. They were glad to point me in the right direction.

Target is the store I choose to wander through and in the end that nets them more of my impulse dollars.

Every time I go to Walmart - and I try not to go very often - I have one of two uncomfortable feelings.
  1. Am I the only person here who speaks English?
  2. Where's Jerry Springer?

Honestly....the store is just a magnet for people who are quite different than me. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. LOL

- our Target has very few groceries
- I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me (size 12/14)
- our Wal Mart has very fresh produce
- both stores are clean
- BOTH STORES ARE "THE MAN"

I have all my teeth, shower on a regular basis, have an education, have never been on Springer, and still shop at Wal Mart. Hmmm ...

Mostly Target for clearance items and different stuff, it's not a SuperTarget.

I do go into Walmart for certain grocery items that are MUCH cheaper than other stores...Crystal Light, their store brand crystal light, eggs, milk, and underwear and Dickies brand items that I can't find cheaper anywhere else, or in as many sizes.

Target without even blinking an eye. We have a walmart within a mile of the house, but I would rather burn some gas to go to Target.

Every 3 months I will take my car to get an oil change at Walmart but I don't go into the store, I stay in the garage area.

I thought for sure this would all be hands-down Target thread.

Target is a much classier store. I hate to even see it compared to Wal-Mart.

The Wal-Mart near us is a very scary place, especially at night. And whats up with the greeters at the front, most of them are NOT a welcome sight.

I prefer walmart although I don't care for either. Target, something about the whole red and white motif sets me on edge. Red is an angry colour anyway. I really prefer Big Lots or to but gently used. I shop @ Giant or the bent& dent for my groceries and toiletries.

I don't know how many of you know who this is, but Carlos Mencia (huge comedian and absolutely hysterical...has his own show on Comedy Central, but you can watch his videos on his website at Carlos Mencia - Mind Of Mencia --make sure you check out Dee Dee Dee)

Anyway, in one of his shows called "No Strings Attached" he says

"God has a sense of humor, if you don't believe me, go to walmart and check it out" *meaning the people* lol

Target Target Target! Our WM is smelly and messy and there are, oh, about 25 checkout lanes but only about three are staffed at any given time, and a dozen people in every line, ugh, give me Target any day. Also don't care for WM clothing, bedding etc but I do buy clothes and towels and things like that at Target. Our Target is usually nice and clean and employees are more helpful.
