Wowsie. Our Our combined gas/electric bill is $193 a month on the level paying plan. We too keep our thermostat at 78 degrees in the summer. I find it comfortable; cannot stand a really cold house.

If I were to average our bill our bill would be $82.00 We use the A/C about 10 days a year and the heat is on all of winter, set at 68* our home is really well insulated.

Hmm.... on the equal payment plan, we currently pay $178/month for electric (only have a gas furnace, electric everything else) and $110/month for gas. We have a 2 story home, a very open plan (2 sstory foyer, unfortunately - I'd never do that again! ) and a pretty good sized house - 3400 sq ft. We have 2 furnaces and 2 units for air.I like to be comfortable (i.e. COOL), though, so we keep the heat set at 64 during the night (67 upstairs) and in the warmer months, for the air, keep the air on at 75 degrees (pretty much up and down). I'm lucky, I guess, for my 2 bedroom 900 sq ft apartment, my last bill was $35. This past winter I was using portable electric heaters and the bill was around $100 a month. My gas bill average is $76 a month.

$79 gas bill $79 electric bill all year long plus, we normally don't have to pay for June and July for the gas bill to reconcile the budget plan. We have a great insulated house but our house is older, it was built in 1920 and upgraded with new energy efficient windows, vinyl siding, higher r-value insulation and during the summer, we have two windowbox air conditioners going on energy saver at around 70 cause it gets too cold if it's any colder...and I am 7 months pregnant!!

Mine fluctuates. In the summer, I have a high electric bill and low gas bill. In the winter, I have a high gas bill and low electric. I just got my electric bill from last month, and it was $70. We usually keep the A/C on 71 upstairs, and 73 downstairs. The heat is usually on 70 for both. Holly

In the year that we've lived in NC the highest was $172, in January. I like 78 all year round, but I don't seem to get it w/ DH around!

During the winter ours runs between $140-$244 It just depends on how cold it gets outside. During the summer it runs beteen $70-$100. We've had two rate hikes within a two year period so that didn't help.

What I would give to have any of your power bills!!! We moved to so cal from Vegas 2 years ago and we have yet to have a power bill under $300. This is with NO A/C, gas appliances and living at the beach (mild climate)! We have figured that it is our pond pump consuming all the power. It runs 24 hrs/day 365/year for a 1500 gallon koi/turtle pond. Our highest was this past winter and it was almost $600. YOWZA! Gas is another $35-$150 depending on the time of year. In Vegas, we ran the AC all summer long and our power bills were never over $300. It's killing me, but I can't turn off the pump or the koi will die and I also can't find a solar/gas alternative to push the energy that it needs. |

We are in Arizona. Not in the Phoenix heat area but in the Prescott area... high desert. Temps *only* get to 105 in the summer... I am one of the ones who sets the A/C to 78 (76 at night)... I do it not ONLY to save money BUT also it is part of how we live GREEN. I gave some of my tips for saving energy in the other thread. We are on the equalizer plan for electricity (gas is separate). We pay $80 a month for electricity year-round. 1500 square foot home. Our heater, water heater, stove are gas... Our gas bill ranges from $25-$65 throughout the year. Our drier is electric but I use it for very few things. Last edited by Cuthie; 05-04-2007 at 05:14 PM. |

We keep our heat set on 73 and right now we have our AC set on the same thing. My bill during the winter is higher sometimes as much as $200 but that is just one month ususally. I have bill on my desk right now and it is $103. I hardly ever open my windows so we either have the heat or AC on all year. Darlene

GEEZ!! I'd love to be most of you. Last summer our highest electric bill was $688.xx, and this winter our lowest bill was $183.xx. Our gas bill runs about $40 a month. We have a 3200sq ft house that was built in 1917... so not very energy efficient. We usually just turn on the a/c for a couple of minutes in the evening to cool the house down and then turn it off. I think that I'd be able to handle it better if dh would let me use the ceiling fans, but he swears that it upsets his allergies.

Wow....I thought our bills were high. I guess we are lucky compared to some of you! I am very conservative with our electricity. Our bill averages from about $95-$130 depending on the time of year. Of course....our heating oil bill is high in the winter. We paid about $400 a month for heat during the cold months last winter.

we keep our AC set at 77 and heat at 65. Our electric is combined with our water bill and it was $123 last month while gas was about $30. When it's cold, that flip flops a bit. We have $200 a month budgeted for water/electric and gas. During the summer, it's gone above that but it's usually under that most of the year

My last electric bill was $102 but that is high for this time of year. Our house is on the market so everytime there is a showing we have to turn on all the lights. Also, I never turn the AC on until June, but it's humid here right now so I had to turn it on so prospective buyers will be comforatable while they are looking. I can't wait for the next bill! Lisa

We live in So. CA and even though it doesn't get too cold in the winter our gas and electric runs about $280 a month. Our heater only comes on when it gets to 65. It gets very hot here in the summer 90's and 100's. We have no ac but do use a lot of fans. In summer our bill is around $150 a month.

We live in Southern MN - brrrrr In the Winter our bills are much higher. We are trying to make our home more energy effiencient! Gas is usually $100-150.00 and city utilities (electric, water, sewer, refuse, and fees) are usually around $150.00-200.00! In the summer our gas bill is usually around $50-75.00. Our city utilities usually run around $75.00-125.00! We don't use our A/C unless absolutely necessary. We also have a window unit which cuts down on electric costs considerably! That being said, we just replaced our furnace, A/C, hot water heater, water softener, and storm windows. It doesn't seem to have helped much in the utilities department . . . At least we got some tax breaks |

My electric bill runs about $65 per month but our gas bill runs about $175. We have gas logs, gas dryer, gas water heater & gas heat. We have central A/C , here in SC it's HOT in the summer. We keep our thermostat in the summer at 69 or 70 degrees & winter at 68 (I can't stand to be hot!) Christine

We are on the equal payment plan. We pay $159 a month. Before that, we were around $120 in the fall and winter and around $170-5 for the summer months. We have central air and fuel oil (which runs around $1500 a year up from $1,000 )

I am in New York and my budget for electric only is 264.00 month. We do not have Central Air, but run a few AC's in the kids rooms. We also heat w/ oil and that budget is 211.00 month, and we use propane for dryer, water heater which a fill up every 60-90 days runs about 250.00. Expensive to live here.

We keep the temp at 72 in the winter, and about 68 in the summer (no central air, just nights get chilly sometimes)..but we rent our house, and our downstairs has new windows that are much more efficient, upstairs we have to plastic wrap our windows, and then put blankets over the top of that. At any rate, our bill is about $165 in summer, and $215 in winter. (Upstate NY)

Ours is a lot! We almost always have either the a/c on or the furnace. And some days have gone from a/c to furnace or the other way around. We live right outside of St Louis and our weather can be so extreme sometimes. Anyway ours stays at 70. One of our twin's hypothalamus was destroyed and she can't regulate her body temp so we have to keep the house at a constant temp all the time.

Our electric bill averages $163.78. Our cheapest months are May and November because we hardly use the heat or a/c and the most expensive is usually February, when we use the heat the most. Our electric bill includes water service too, but does not include sewer (since we have a septic tank), or garbage. We generally keep our thermostat set at 68-69F in the winter and at 77-78F in the summer. We can check our utilities online and I like to compare ours to our neighbors from time to time. The people across the street from us live in a smaller house, but their average bill is $360 per month! I don't know what they do that would make their bill $200 more than ours each month.?.? We got a new a/c unit a while back and it has helped lower our bill quite a bit. We used to average about $30 more per month than our next door neighbors, but now they average $35 more per month. The way I figure it, we are actually saving about $65 per month since we had the new unit put in. It was well worth the money we put into it, and it's adding up fast! |

we are on the even billing plan, and our CAC and Heat are set on 76 at all times. Our monthly gas and electric (it's one company one bill) is $74 a month. I would love to only have $35 a month, but would hate to see what the balloon payment is. LOL we have 4 computers running all the time, plus 3 TV's running sometimes plus a huge deep freezer running all the time
