Opinion on this Boys Communion Gift

My Godson is receiving communion and I bought him a a14kt Gold Cross Tie Tac or Lapel pin. I also bought a Communion Photo Album and Communion Frame with a boy on it. Is this good enough or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also they told me boys would prefer sterling over yellow gold which i somewhat agree but will they think I am being cheap is the question so I bought the 14k.

I always buy a 50.00 bond at the bank cost 25.00 and can be put away for college. I also buy these for birthdays along with a gift.

Here's my 2 or 3 cents.

I do think that silvertone (sterling, stainless steel, white gold, or platinum) jewelry is more popular than gold nowadays for both males and females.
I can't remember the last time I've seen anyone wear a tie tac. I've seen a few people wear lapel pins but usually for a club of some sort or an elderly person.
I agree with previous poster that savings bonds make great gifts for special occasions. My mom gives them to my sons along with a little something tangible for the instant gratification factor.

FWIW.

While I think it's nice of you to buy these items, honestly, they'll just end up in a drawer to never be used. I'm speaking from experience having raised two boys. If you want to give some sort of jewelry, a nice watch would be useful and something he would use and maybe engrave something on the back.

I think the savings bond is a great idea.

I think what you have already bought is more then generous. I am going to a first communion tomorrow. It is a family friend and we will be giving her money.

Does he wear tie tacks on a regular basis? The frame and photo album sounds like more of a gift for the parents than for a young teenager (they could probably care less whether there is photos of the occasion). I would also have to second a differnt type of gift, a nice watch and money are both nice suggestions for a boy. I noticed that you have 3 girls in your signature line, I also have 3 girls, but having worked extensively with boys, I think the things they like are totally different from what girls like. I think my DD would be thrilled with a cross necklace or something to that effect, but boys are different, I just don't think a boy would be happy to receive a cross tie tack? Gold, gold is not really popular these days (although I like it) silver, titanium or white gold nowadays that is popular for the younger kids (at least that's what mine like. I am not trying to be mean or offend you, so please don't take it that way.

I think that Godparents should give a sentimental-like gift like this. I think what you bought is great. Although he may not use it all the time, it is something that he will have for a long time. I was just looking through my boxes the other day and stumbled upon a rosary that I got for first communion 25+ years ago, and it brought me back. I still remember the day I got it.

Do you need the social security # to get a savings bond? I have been wanting to start giving them as gifts, but I thought you needed the SS#.

If you don't have the child's SS#, you can use your own. My kids have been given bonds with the givers SS# on them.

I'm afraid I have to agree.

And I think he is simply too young to "appreciate" the thought behind this kind of gift

When it was my Godchild's communion, boy or girl, I bought a 14K cross to wear that day and also gave a bond. Any other family member/friend, it was money or a bond.
