Extreme Makeover Home Edition

I missed the beginning of this one last night. Can someone tell me what the situation was for this family???

When they were building her house, I was up in the area, and they would have updates on the news. They really do work 'round the clock.

Thanks.

Basically single mom divorced with 4 kids, bought her first house alone. Was in the kitchen pulled a piece of tape on the wall and the wall was eaten up by termites, turns out the whole house was eaten by termites and uninhabitable. Sadly she had the pre-inspection done and they missed it when she bought it.

Thanks!

Wow, that's scary. You would think the bank would want a termite letter for the mortgage??? Anyway...she got a beautiful new house. The "magic" room was so cool!!!!

I got a phone call near the end of the show and missed lots.
What was the 'magic room' and anything else I should know about the last 10 minutes?

That's about all I caught.....let's see...ok, the "magic" room was for one of the sons, and he had this wand that you could point at things on the wall, sconces, and also there was a Knight, I think, and when he pointed the wand at them, the sconces came on, and the knight would talk. Also, there was some sort of dragon on the wall, like a TV, but, it was animated. I didn't understand it. One son had a "space" themed room. I missed the other boys' room(s) and the mom's room. Oh, the Mom got to dance at Disney in the Beauty and The Beast show, and her parents (??) were there.

That's about all I remember.

the 4yo twin boys room was fireman and policeman themed. The mom's room was just a gorgeous seashore blue and white master bedroom. And the townspeople had collected enough money to pay off her mortgage for her.

I'm such a killjoy...but I think it's just ridiculous the kinds of houses that they build for these families. They're so out of place with the people's lifestyles and neighborhoods, and although I know that they raise some money to help sustain it, it's just not clear to me how these families will be able to afford to heat or air condition these homes, let alone other upkeep..... I personally think it would be much better to do modest projects/homes for more people than these big honkin' homes for a few.

When the show first started didn't they just repair, improve, maybe add on and do the yard and stuff like that?
If they didn't spend so much on each house they could do more houses.
Probably wouldn't make for good TV tho!

Did you see the look on the little guy's face......the one who got the smaller police bed?
It was just pitiful!!!

I would LOVE to see a follow up show for some of these houses they have done.

I often wonder if these people can afford to heat and keep the lights on these houses..
