Gift Suggestions for Mother's Day

Hi Everyone
I have another question (I promise it will be the last for today ) I am going to my boyfriend's friday night and we are gonna stop by and see his grandmother. I want to bring her a little something for Mother's Day but need ideas. She is 87, doesn't get out except to doctor appointments (she doesnt walk very well and uses a walker) She was so happy when we were there this past weekend (it was the first time I met her and she is so sweet) I dont want to get flowers because they die and it may be hard for her to change the water. When My grandma was alive (this is my first mothers day without her ) I would take her out to lunch and get her flowers and just spend the day with her but my boyfriend has to work this weekend so I would feel a little uncomfortable staying alone with his grandma since we just met (that and she doesn't speak English very well so that poses another obsticle cause I dont speak any other languages) Any ideas are appreciated

I don't know how far away you are from NYC, but they have a Whole Foods in the basement of Columbus Circle Mall (upper West Side Manhattan).

I say this because at Whole Foods you can get all different "flavors" of glycerin soap--not wrapped either! You cut off however much you want of whichever "flavor".

It is not cheap, but it is definitely a good personal touch when you get their soap because it is not a straight edge cutter--it's a wavy cutter (sorry kind of hard to explain).

Lots of elderly people are cold all the time. Maybe you could find her an electric throw or cuddly blanket. The elderly ladies I know *love* body powder that is applied with a puff. Some some Latin music on a CD if she has a CD player. You are a very thoughtful lady )

This may sound silly cause I am in NYC all the time my BF is from Brooklyn, how far is Columbus Circle mall from Penn Station? I am just learning my way around the city I only know my way from Penn to Times Square, 5th Ave and the villiage anything other than that and I am lost. Thanks so much for the ideas everyone

Columbus Circle Mall is on 10 Columbus Circle--which is at the intersection of Central Park South and Broadway. (the SW most corner of Central Park)

Penn Station is on W. 34th Street, and according to google it is 1.6 miles north of Penn Station.

Penn Station is a junction for a ton of subway trains, so any train going north to Central Park will get you there.

The Mall (obviously) just looks like a huge building with a few shops facing the outside, there is a huge statue in front of the mall (it's shaped like the Earth I think).

We discovered it in December when we were in NYC, but it is an awesome mall!!

I wouldn't recommend walking to the mall from Penn Station, unless you love walking...just take one of the northbound trains.

*editing to add: Penn Station is on 8th Avenue and 34th Street. It is one block west of Broadway. You CAN take 8th Avenue north 25 blocks to Columbus Circle and you will be right in front of it.

on a side note... if ever you want an AWESOME place to go get a quick bite to eat...

check out "Corner Cafe Shop" in the Village. The address is 643 Broadway. (on the corner of Bleeker Street)

the pancakes with the white chocolate and blueberries is simply to die for! They have hot tea, which is served in individual cast iron tea kettles!

It's really cozy and really nice and not overly expensive. (the three of us ate for under $40 for everything)
