Are you afraid of anything?

I just wanted to know if others are afraid of some of the same things?

I am afraid of the dark...ok who's next?

I am also afraid of the dark. I can be sound asleep and if there is a storm and the electricity goes out, I will wake up immediately if it is dark in the house and can't go back to sleep as long as it is dark. We sleep with a light on in the next room, so I can see if I open my eyes and it's not totally dark.

I get in a panic state as soon as the door to an elevator closes. I honestly have a real fear of them.

Of course, I fear the stairs worse.....LOL

I'm afraid of ants, seriously. There's never just one! I'm also afraid of leaving my kids w/ someone else. People leave pot handles turned out, hot coffee on tables, etc. etc. I'm extremely vigilant about watching my kids.

Last year, I was at the beach with friends and I had to get something from the car so I was going to bring dd with me (she's 5 and was playing w/ my friends dd in the sand under the umbrella) My friend insisted that she would watch her like a hawk and not to worry. So, I walk to the parking lot, and look back to check on them and I SEE MY DD HEADED TOWARD THE OCEAN!! I screamed but my friend couldn't hear me. I went running back but it's hard to run in the sand and my friend saw me and looked over at the girls and THEN noticed my dd was gone. I never trust someone else to watch my kids.

Crickets. It goes back to my childhood. I was around 8 or so. I was watching tv dressed in a pink nightgown when a HUGE black cricket landed on me. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Would those happen to be called Palmetto Bugs? Big nasty roaches that can fly and you have to basically shoot them with a gun to make them die!!!

I am so afraid of heights, walking across bridges and tight spaces with too many people.

I am afraid of the unknown.
I am afraid of losing everything and becoming destitute.
For normal fears , I have always been afraid of speaking in front of people (but have gotten much, much better at this with age)

These are my *exact* fears! I can handle the elevator if there are only a few people, but when people crowd on I have to get off and either take the steps or wait for a less crowded one. Won't get on a plane (claustrophobic) and haven't been to the dentist in years!

Needless to say, I didn't get the mail that day! lok

Sort of off topic...but for you all that are afraid of snakes get some moth balls and spread them around the outside perimeter of your house, it keeps them away

water, not pools or tubs or showers, but bodies of water. I had nightmares for a week when someone suggested taking the local water taxi from one side of the river to the other.

Quite a few that have already been mentioned, but I do have one that no one has mentioned.

I'm scared to death to put air in my tires. Now, one uncle while I was growing up worked in a tire shop, so I spent plenty of time there, and another uncle now owns a tire shop, so you would think it wouldn't bother me.

When I was in HS I was sitting at work, and there was a gas station next door. Some man was airing up his tires and one exploded. He lost part of his hand and his face was mangled. Since then I won't put air in my tires. I'd rather drive on the rims and have to buy new wheels than actually put air in them myself.

I don't like elevators either, but I think that's traceable. When I was tiny, I got caught in a subway door, and I ended up being fine, but the panic was horrible. I'm still a bit afraid of guns, because I didn't grow up with them, but I lost my fear of ghosts after seeing something weird. I sat up last night and watched a bunch of Brits get freaked out walking around a haunted castle, and it didn't bother me at all. Am still afraid of unprotected electricity.

EXTREMELY afraid of spiders! I have been known to scream and through magazines across the house if I flip a page and there's a spider PICTURE!

The other thing I'm afraid of is....having my arms hang off the side of the bed while I'm sleepin (afraid the "boogey man" will grab me and drag me under the bed!)

OH, me too! I've been like that ever since I was little and saw the movie Gargoyles and there was a gargoyle under the bed.

We tried the moth balls. My dad put them out for me and he must have used a WHOLE box in front of the door. The smell was horrible. You could smell them thru the whole house.

Wal-Mart sells something called Snake Away. It's a moth ball mixture that isn't as strong as straight moth balls. We tried that the first year we lived here and it kept them away.

One other thing I forgot to put in my original post......I'm a little afraid of escalators. I'm afraid my pants will get caught in it and my leg will get ripped off.

Yeah...I had seen 4 baby snakes right beside my side entrance door so I went crazy in wal-mart...buying the Snakeaway for $14.96 and 4 boxes of mothballs, lol...I still have the mothballs in the garage and used 1/2 the box of the Snakeaway, I thought the snakeaway was mothballs, it smells pretty bad too...but it must have worked because I have not seen any more snakes

I have a fear I haven't seen mentioned. I hate any movies about dolls coming alive and i hate those stupid monkeys that bang cymbals when you turn them on. I had one of the monkeys when I lived alone in my early 20's. One night it kept turning itself on and I finally ended up throwing it out my front door I was so scared! Ever since then any movie about a toy or doll coming to life scares me to death. So no Chucky around here!

I also am afraid of heights and hanging my arm or leg off the side of the bed. Not so much because of te boogie man, I am afraid a creepy crawly will crawl up my arm or legs! LOL

I'm afraid of crawly bugs..like spiders, june bugs and other awful creatures. If we are sitting outside in the summer evenings, I imagine I feel them on me and will spend all my time swating at things that aren't there.
I get very anxious when my childen are being driven someplace by anyone other than dh or myself, I worry about field trips that involve hiway travel and they are being transported on a school bus.
I'm afraid of semis on the hi-way too, I have to white knuckle it when we pass them or they pass us, God forbid that we get boxed in by a couple.
I also can't stand to be held down or confined....can't breathe.
Going to the dentist also terrifies me.
Whew! I guess I need some therapy...

Cotton balls? I can just imagine your kids chasing you around with them! I love it!

I am afraid of wasps, bees and hornets. Fairly normal, I think, but the strange thing is that I just developed this fear a few years ago and it is definately getting worse. I am not allergic and I have been stung several times as a child (once even in the face!), so I know it's not the end of the world.

Nothing new happened to make me start fearing them so much. I guess we moved further south and they're bigger here, but that's all.

It's really embarassing because I get so uptight and nervous when one buzzes by me. I duck and freeze and it doesn't matter where I am or who is watching! Any ideas on how to get over this?

I am afraid of most bugs.
I am TERRIFIED of spiders.
I too won't even touch them or look at them in a magazine.
I was doing something here on the computer the other day and every once in a while a group of BIG spiders would show up along the left hand side of the screen. I taped a piece of paper on the computer screen so I couldn't see them.
I am also afraid of heights, especially if I have to look straight down.
Watching TV with anyone, I will turn away at height scenes or bugs and ask to be told when it is gone.
I am also afraid of pain. Like being hurt and not being able to stand the pain.
Don't know if you'd call it a fear or not, but I get very upset if I see people physically fighting, mostly on TV. I would "freak" if I saw someting like that in person!

Oh and masks on people!!!!

I won't go outsde alone after dark .If my DH is off work and I have to go to work I make him get up and walk me to my car since it's still dark at 5:30am

Clowns (yes, clowns LOL) It goes back to a movie I saw as a child where some kind of alien critter came out of a clowns face. Ever since then I can't even look at a clown. DH makes fun of me all the time. If we go somewhere and there is a clown I will do everything in my power to avoid it.

Anesthetics and surgery. I had a lot of surgery as a kid and the recovery period was miserable. At that time, they didn't believe in giving kids much pain killer and the anesthesia was really hard on you. I'm a little better than I used to be. A few years ago, I had to have surgery and when the doctor mentioned anesthesia, I burst into tears. I insisted on a local instead of being knocked out entirely. They did a block which started to wear off before they were done. It didn't hurt, but I could feel them stitching me closed!

UGH, just the mere mention of spiders is making my hair stand up. Major Arachniphobe here. My brother thought watching "arachniphobia" would help me face my fear (it wasnt that bad at the time) but it just made it worse. Gave me all to much imagry. I hate that a lot of movies use tarantulas. There should be a warning so I can look away! UGH!!Im getting chills just typing this.

Airbornearmywife, what's with the popsicle stick fear?

This all comes from me getting braces and I had to sit in the chair for 3 hours with my mouth stuffed with cotton. Oh this is giving me chills just talking about it. I actually get goose bumps just thinking about it. My middle son is getting braces this month and I am so worried about the cotton balls not the price, not the pain, just the stupid cotton balls. Ok yes I am crazy.
Bugs snakes spiders heights closed spaces the dark none of this bothers me. Just stupid cotton balls.
I am the exact same way but with buttons! They freak me out so bad I don't buy kids clothes or anyone in my familys clothes that have buttons on them.
And yes my oldest dd, she's 18 now, loves to chase me with them.
