What do you do with your kids old toys?

My son has 3-4 storage tubs full of toys he rarely plays with. And has a bunch in his room still.

I think I am somewhat of a packrat with his toys - I hate to throw them out or get rid of them.

But we have no place to store them!!

If I could even get the "keep" stuff into 2 tubs I would be happy.

But what do I do with the old toys?? Obviously I throw the junk/broken stuff away. But what about the good stuff?? Do I save it for a yard sale? Donate it (if I could find a place to take them)??

What do you do with your kids old toys??

We have a garage sale every year..

or it goes on ebay.

I don't know how old your son is, but every few months I clean out the kid's rooms. I usually have a huge garbage bag full of toys, mostly junk, paper tubes, boxes.. whatever they have collected. They know I do this. I save the bag for a month or 2. Anything they can remember I took and want back they can have. No one has ever missed more than 2 small things. When I get a chance, or the sale comes around I go through it. A lot of it is trash, and the rest goes in the sale. Some special things I do have in a box in the basement to save.

Well, I have 2 nephews younger than Brandon, so I hand them down. My sisters sure appreciate them!

Sometimes I'll sell them at Once Upon a Child or garage sale if it's something that my sisters don't want or already have. I've also been known to donate them to the church, who really appreciates them.

We have always donated them, but a couple weeks ago a friend of my older daughter had her own toy garage sale when the neighborhood did their garage sale. Her mom let her keep all her money - she is 13 and made $111. We've decided that we think that's a great idea for them to make their own money, so we've decided to start keeping them and let them have their own garage sale - when the neighborhood does it so they have lots of traffic.

Our town has a free store for the people that can't afford things. I donate everything there, clothes, toys, dishes, wall hangings, furniture... I found out about it through a local church. I never even knew it was there.

We either donate them to Goodwill, Salvation Army, give to friends or donate to the local womens shelter. They are opening a house for abused women and children and they need everything.

Right now I am saving everything because the club I am in at school is going to be having a rummage sale to raise money for Relay for Life.

go to FlyLady.net: Your personal online coach to help you gain control of your house and home and read some of her tips on there. She can really help you to get rid of things.

I yard sale my kids' old toys. I have kept one or two of their "favorites" from their baby years, in their memory boxes. Pretty much everything else goes.

I donate them, some to their old preschool or to a church group and some go to friends with younger kids .

I really don't care who gets them just as long as they are out of my house.

well we aren't overun by toys because our rule is "one comes in and one goes out". So on Christmas, bdays, etc, for every toy that is received, one must leave. It's been a lot more manageable that way (compared to other homes I've been in where you can't sit there are so many toys). We have a garage sales every year plus we will give them away to younger neighbors or simply donate them.

I too donate to local shelters for women who have been abused. So often these women and their children leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs or at least with little else. Especially with my daughter's stuffed animals, these are so loved in their new homes with these families. Ask around your church or your city offices about shelters where these could be donated.

I donate to the local thrift store that the homeless shelter runs here. They go through everything first and keep what they need before selling the rest. All of the profit from the thrift store also goes back into the shelter.

Nice concept and my family feels good about donating to them.

It is a good thing for kids to learn -- giving to those who are less fortunate.
