Product recalls

I just checked my dishwasher for the GE recall (we have an Eterna), but it was not on the list. While I was looking up information I came across the Magnetix recall. Yikes, I somehow hadn't heard about this! Has anyone sent theirs back? I guess I need to stay more on top of recalls!

Here is the information on the GE dishwasher recall - in case you haven't already heard...

Safety Recall
GE Dishwashers - May 2007 Recall

On May 16, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the General Electric Company (GE) announced a recall of 2.5 million GE built-in dishwashers manufactured from September 1997 to December 2001. Submit the information below or call the GE Recall Hotline to determine if your dishwasher is included in the recall.

The Magnetix one was from last year but I'm not sure what's going on now because some stores have pulled all their Magnetix sets from the shelves again.
Here's last years recall. I didn't see anything for this year but obviously something is going on if they are pulling them from the shelves again.

Today when I was at Target ( stocking up on Pampers ) I overheard a team member say that there was a recall on the MicroMagnetix, and that they needed to go pull them from the shelves.

GE has received 135 reports of overheated wiring and 56 reports of property damage, including 12 reports of fires that escaped the dishwasher. Fire damage was limited to the dishwasher or the adjacent area. No injuries have been reported.
Mine was one of the 12 fires reported... I *Normally* set my dishwasher to wash when I head to bed. 2 years ago on that night, I started it while I watched the news. All of a sudden smoke came boiling out of my kitchen ,my fire alarm when crazy, DH and I ran into the kitchen only to see our Dishwasher in FLAMES !!, DH ran to cut the breakers and grab a Fire Extinguisher to put the fire out. We unplugged the dishwasher and removed it out of the housing .. It took about 5 mins form start to finish. But man that had to be the longest 5 mins of my life. very scary...When all was said and done, It had MELTED the whole front of the control panel and burnt part of the housing.. I called GE the next morning to report the fire. They sent a repairman out with in 2 days. GET THIS !!, This man wanted to just replace the control panel WTF ??? , My Dishwasher inside was MELTED, it smelled of smoke, it was black and burnt. I told him in not so many nice words, I dont think so !!, You replace the whole unit, give me my money back or replace it with a NEWER model. He told me he wasn't given clearance to do that, I told him get whom ever you have too on the phone, because you are ALL CRAZY if you think for 1 sec you are leaving me with a burnt up dishwasher and smelling of smoke.... It took a few mins for this nut to understand I meant what I had said. He called and I was issued a check for the 590.00 we had paid for the dishwasher. I got a May tag after that.

From that night till this, I have never ever started my dishwasher before or when leaving my home.
I also never leave my dryer running when I'm sleeping or away from the house, I also went Thur a fire with a USED dryer I got after my 11 year old was born. I now will not TOUCH a used dryer, or for that matter just about ANYTHING thats electric thats been used.

Dreams Thank- You for posting this. I have always been the *Bad Mommy* to my kids because I wouldn't allow them to get jewelry out of those machines. I'm GLAD I trusted myself on this. I had always wondered if the rings, necklaces, bracelets and such were safe.
My kids also think I'm the baddest Mommy in the world because I will not let them get the tattoo's sold in the machines either.

I remember that because my daughter was just a little thing at the time...I am gonna guess it was around 1993 or so.

wow, I never even knew there was a recall for the tattoo's ..

I just didn't like the idea the kids would use *Sorry gross I know* spit to put on..I know *most* use water, But really its about the same if them put them on their body either way the Ink will still bleed Thu the skin into the bloodstream.

I worried about the ink/dye/paper/ a everything else they might have used to make them.. They seem so unsafe to use.
I will not even buy ANY tattoo's that are sold over the counter because of the fear..

There's so many shady things these companies put out for the love of the all mighty dollar when it comes to the kids. Not worth it to me to poison one of mine to make someone else rich off being CHEAP with what they use to make this junk with.

Sorry couldn't help on the tattoo recall for you., But appreciate the posting, I'm going to read it to my kids and explain this is WHY mommy never let you buy that stuff.

Edit to add
I have allowed them to use the tattoo's form the roll ups and the ones in the food products but ONLY if they use food coloring. It's hard to find sometimes with just the food coloring, but most of the food products that have the tattoos in the package are done that way.

Whew - glad the GE info helped someone!

Here is some info on how to return/exchange Magnetix:

MEGA Brands™| Consumer Service | Magnetix Replacement Program

It looks like you fill out your info, theey send you a prepaid shipping envelope to return them and then once they receive them you'll get your replacement item. HTH!

Good luck with that. I have a maytag from around the same years. It was recalled for the exact same reason. Their way of handling it was to send a replacement part, then you got to call a repairman. It only took a little over a month to get the part. I was also supposed to unplug it for the month+ until the parts came in. I could then schedule the repairman. Sounds like GE at least had better customer service. Maytag STINKS in that department.
