So are there any motorcycle riders here?

Just wondering if anyone else here rides?

DH has a chopper so I haven't been out with him in a few years, my butt is NOT going to fit on that fender. I did go with him before we had kids and he had the Harley. He wants to trade this bike in on a new Harley and I don't want him to, we went through so much to get this and it's nice to have something different.

What's your ride?

We ride..we have a Harley "96 Hertiage Soft Tail Special" and before dh traveled so much, we rode alot. He's from Newcastle, WY ( about an 90 miles from Sturgis, SD) and we would do every major bike rally in the US, Now that he travels so much we do not get to ride as much as we'd like to.

DH has a Honda Shadow Saber that I bought him a couple of years ago. I ride with him sometimes but not as often as I would like since our kids are young. We ARE going on a big charity ride next Sunday which we are looking forward to. I usually only tag along for poker runs....maybe 2 or 3 during the summer and a couple of weekends we ride an hour up to Estes Park. We have been talking about the possibility of me taking the lesson course ( I have never driven a motorcycle) and getting my own in the next few years

As a matter of fact I just graduated the Abate Safety Course yesterday and am getting my license tomorrow! We have a Yamaha V-Star Classic. Love the bike love to ride but now I am going to have to get DH his own so I can have mine all to myself. I do highly recommend the abate course you learn a lot.

I had a red '93 Harley Sportster 883 all chromed out.......Screamin' Eagle pipes. Had to sell it when my (now) Ex-DH decided to bankrupt me. Hopefully one of these days soon I'll be able to get another one. I have to agree that any motorcyle driver education program is a must!

Hubby has a couple of motorcycles. He just rebuilt a Honda that is a little more comfortable than his sport bike. The main one we have now is the '98 Yamaha YZF 1000. It is a lot of fun, but not very comfortable for long rides. I haven't gone with him as much these last few years as we used to go. Guess I'm just getting older and it isn't as much fun anymore for me.

Just curious--in Montana, you have to take a Motorcycle safety course(at least a 2 day course @ 8 hr/days, pass the written test and the driving, before you can get a Motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license. Technically, you are not suppose to drive/operate a motorcycle w/o that endorsement. Is it not like that in other states??

I ride w/ dh. He has a 2006 Harley Dyna Super Glide. He wanted another bike and rather than getting a foreign "rice rocket" I encouraged him to get a Harley and helped him pick out his bike. It's a gorgeous bike!

I am in Indiana and all you need to do is go to the BMV and take a written test to get your permit. Once you have that you must wear a helmet, only travel during daylight, cannot carry passsengers and must hold it 30 days before getting your license. To get your license you can either go back to the BMV and take a driving test with your own bike or you can go through the safety course and take your papers showing you passed and get your license. So it is not madatory here although I think it should be. I learned so much in that class.

In Illinois, there are free state sponsored motorcycle courses which are 2 days- 6 or 8 hours a day- I can't remember. ( It has been a while.) The courses are not mandatory. It is a shame. The course is really good for all levels of experience.
We finally sold the bike (Valkyrie Interstate) last fall. My husband was hit while at a traffic light- FORTUNATELY, he was not hurt and the bike only sustained about $700 worth of damage. But, the driver had no license, no insurance, and only paid us $100. It seemed like a good time to get out of riding. (Anybody want to buy 2 leather ventilated jackets?)
Our bike went to a good home. The fellow had always ridden old clunkers- when we were negotiating the deal he was so excited and overwheelmed, that he had tears in his eyes and had to sit down. He kept saying, "I'm just shaking". We knew he would love her like we did.
