Okay I was the first, I put a 9 for me. I really love everything about my body, face and hair but I am dieting so I would like to be slighty smaller. I have to say I was a little paranoid about posting b/c gosh what if OP comes back and says I'm really ugly or something !!! Oh well, I guess I live with it!

I am going to say about a 7. Like the above, I have been told that I am pretty. I am just not happy with my weight. I dress nicely, and always clean and presentable. But I don't obsess over every little detail.

Me too. Someday when the kids are in school I will have time for me again, right? I dress sloppy, I need a good cut and color and need to lose about 75 pounds. Maybe I should have voted 1.

I voted 7 but its about 7.5. I think I have a beautiful face when I do not have pimples. I like my body but wish my boobs were a bit larger (2 cups would be perfect) and my stomache and thighs a bit smaller. I just started walking last week so I am hoping to get a bit smaller.

I gave myself a 7. After having 5 kids and being 38, I think I'm pretty attractive still. I get told consistetly that I don't look my age at all. I would like to drop about 20 lbs though and I'm in the process of doing that. I think I'm actually getting better w/ age.

Sadly right now I would say a 2. I am post op gastric bypass, suffering complications, on TPN now at home due to malnutrition, and have been told I look like a "skeleton" and "sickly". Sigh....the truth comes out. Only gave myself a 2 because the TPN did give me a bit of color back. I am currently waiting authorization from insurance company to get a reversal...PLEASE EVERYONE SAY A PRAYER FOR IT TO COME SOON...and have been told that when I get it, and the proper nutrients and gain 20 lbs. I will look HOT. Hope so....

I gave myself a 5 for right now. If I could just get some of this weight off I would change my answer to an 8.

I gave myself a 7. I have lost a lot of weight too (well, put a few on that I'm losing now!) and have been told I look good. (I've had a few guys try to hit on me...does wonders for the ego!) I hate my nose, one of these years I'm gettin' it fixed. Dh says he loves my nose, it's what makes me ME. Um, thanks but I've hated it since the 5th grade. I do have nice boobs tho. And I'm curvy too, dh says he LOVES my curves. I still get proofed for beer, and I'll turn 42 in a couple of weeks, so I guess I'm aging well.

At least dh likes the way I'm put together!

I gave myself a 6 - mostly because I haven't smiled in years - many many years since I have lost so many teeth - so I don't let anyone take pics of me since I alway look so totally unhappy!!!! Also would like to lose some tummy weight!!!!

ok i knew it wouldnt be true. i read a psychology article that said 97% of people believe they are better looking that average (6 or better). given how hard we are on ourselves and the standards that are held up as attainable, i just couldnt see where that was coming from.

I didn't vote, but I'd give myself a low number. I have such crappy self esteem. It's actually hard for me to even admit THAT. I was teased and tormented for a few years wayyyyy back in elementary school and believe it or not, it has had an effect on me.

Our church is going to be doing a Bible study program on women with low self esteem. My hubby wants me to go. I don't really want to because that's admitting that I feel horrible about myself to OTHER people.

Amy---I totally understand. I was teased in school too and have only had a small window of time where I felt "pretty". It doesn't help that my husband doesn't even find me attactive. (he has told me I am "average"..ouch.) And last year, I consulted with a plastic surgeon for a local makeover contest. He pointed out things that I was even aware of...before. I have a list of thing that I would love to get fixed. And I need to get back into shape. Sigh...

I will say I can find some things I like, but they are a few while my list of dislikes is huge!

I'm sorry that your hubby said you were "average." My hubby is the opposite. He always tells me I'm beautiful, sexy, etc. Of course, I don't believe him!

A little off topic. My middle girl will start kindergarten this year. She's bigger than the other kids. It's scares me that she will be tormented and picked on because of her weight by the other kids. I KNOW what it's done to me and I don't want her to go thru that and then have low self esteem when she's older because of a bunch of little brats. I think it's sad when kids make fun of others because of their weight. One boy in her preschool class told her that she was "the biggest kid in the class" .

It's sad how much words can hurt.

I believe that. He is only complimentary at "certain times", KWIM? I have never let him forget the average comment. It was said in the manner of "wow...how can 2 average people like us have such cute kids?" I said, "AVERAGE?" He responded..."yeah...and I wouldn't be upset if you called me average looking." Cripes...how can you feel good when the person would should see you in the best light thinks that? I think that comment was about 5 years ago and it still stings.

We have discussed the plastic surgery I want and he is intimidated. He worries that I wouldn't want to be with him if I looked good! WHAT? It isn't about him. Ugh...can you tell we have bigger issues?

I don't know if you husband knows the quote,'open mouth insert foot" but let me be the first to tell him. I think that sometimes ppl don't know how to give a compliment. He was trying to complimnet your children and instead insulted you. Did you ever think that he could have the self-esteem issue? I would like to know what his idea of average is!! Maybe its really good. My husband once said Marcia Cross was an average looking woman and I think she is just flawless! (on camera) I know she has a flaw in there somewhere, but it just isn't visible to me!!

My husband told me once that he was lucky our girls took after my side of the family and that he was always worried that his children would be ugly!! It is the weridest thing but the men in his family tend to be average or betterlooking and the women are really nothing specialKWIM? and he was really worried that he would have ugly children since they were girls!!! I swear thats probably what your DH thinks too!!

Hehe...umm...he is confident on the edge of cocky. And yes...he is VERY familiar with the phrase "open foot inset mouth". He does it all the time. (Esp. to me. He says weird things all the time.)

I've read that average is actually how our society defines beauty!

Think about having average nose, mouth, chin, average skin, being of average build, with average-length hair... it's all quite attractive!!

I'm with Vicki - you're obviously very attractive, and your husband knows it! In fact, I think his way of maintaining his being "confident on the edge of cocky" is by keeping everyone else from feeling too good.
