I burned myself! what to do?

I dropped a pan of boiling water on my foot. I had on sneakers and socks, I got them off quickly, and doused my foot in cold water from the tub.
It was really painful last night, I kept it elevated, took Advil, and on and off put it in cold water bucket.
Today it is blistery, a few of on my toes, with one big ione on my first toe after the big toe. It looks like a fluid filled extra toe on top. UGH! It isn't as painful today, and I;m not trying to walk much. i have Tetracycline that I take for my Rosacea, so I took onr today.
What else can I do?Do I pop the blister?

NEVER pop a blister of any sort! That allows bacteria to get into the wound and thus could potentially cause and infection.

What you can do is go to the Doctor. Given that you have a diagnosed skin condition, that while it may not be on your feet could effect how you heal. I wouldn't take any other prescription medication without first checking with your doctor. There may not be anything a doctor can do at this point, but you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need to be evaluated to make sure there isn't more serious damage. And if the blister(s) need to be drained a medical provider needs to do that as well.

Okay I'm a freak....I pop every blister I had ever had in my whole life!! I can't help it it's a personal tick or something.

You don't realize how many layers of skin that could be affected by this and I would go to the doc.

I agree... you should go to the Dr. The burn is bad if it is blistering. GO TO THE DR.

If I were you, I would just call the doc and talk to the nurse. This will save you some $$. They will probably tell you to get some neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment to put on the blisters. This will keep the bacteria at bay and if you start to develop red lines that lead towards the direction of your heart, then you need to go into the doc as it's affected the blood stream and caused an infection. Honestly, you did the right thing...It shouldn't be too painful especially if you get the neosporin plus pain relief. Maybe call your skin doc vs your family doc (unless their the same?) but my son recently touched the iron and developed blisters immediately and that's what they told me to do. He is just a toddler and they told me there is no reason to come in. I found out that specially marked packages of benedryl pills have a coupon booklet on the outside of them with a $1 off coupon for any neosporin product. HTH!!

I did the same thing once except it was my hand. I didn't go to the doctor. My dad came over with an aloe plant and covered it in aloe. After that I kept reapplying the aloe and neosporin. It healed with no complications.

Save yourself some money and try the aloe plant and anti-bacterial ointment. That's basically all a doctor would do.

Aloe truly is a miracle worker on burns but don't risk infection if it is an open wound.

If you can put honey on a burn right away it often won't blister. This would be once its comfortable to have out of cold water. In this case, though, I would call a doctor.

I learn something new each day - Matt always drained my blisters. We take a sewing needle and put it over the fire on the stove (like that's going to make it sterile) then slip the point of the needle at the very side of the blister, then drain it by pressing a cotton ball soaked with peroxide on it. That may be why mine always scars too. Duh! That's the way Matt always did it, he's the official blister popper in the house.

I was given a Rx for Silverdine ointment (or cream/paste) a few years ago and it's a must have - I'm not sure how I lived this long without it A few months ago, I had a steam burn on my right hand that's been damaged by shingles and it helped. Matthew came home from an amusement park the other day with a sunburn on his little cheeks/nose/shoulders, I put the Silverdine in the freezer for 10 minutes then put a thin layer on him, the next morning he was 100% better.

I agree though OP, you should have it checked for infection.

When I worked for a nursing home in the kitchen, they had Silvadine in the first aide kits. It really does work wonders.

OK, guys, take it from an old ER nurse- do not pop blisters. Blisters are there for a reason. It is the body's way of trying to heal the boo-boo by bathing the area with helpful fluids. Protect the blister and let it do it's job. Eventually, the fluid will re-absorb and the skin will sit down where it belongs. Keep the area clean, never apply anything except cold water or a burn product like silvadene or an antibiotic ointment. If the blister breaks, then keep the area covered to avoid infection. As an adult, you can probably treat your own small burn. Just use good sense : check for signs of infection, no shoes, pain meds like Advil, and the antibiotic won't hurt.

Well, thanks for the advice. I got nervous, since this weekend is a big one, and if I am laid up, I will be angry I didn't get it checked. I went to the Dr. and he said I have 1st and 2nd degree burns on my foot. He drained and measured my blister, which he asked if I was shooting for a new world record, it was so big. He put on the silver something cream, and covered it up with bandages. I was glad I went. I'll have a RX for the next goofball moment I have.
He wants to check it again before the long weekend, on Friday. I'm glad I went, and you guys were right on the money about what to do, it's just what he told me to do. Thanks.
