Beisdes gas, what is skyrocketing in your area?

I just noticed this the other night, milk prices here jumped more than $1 a gallon overnight I was paying $2.58 per gallon up until the other night when I paid $3.61! I know it's probably the transportation cost getting passed on to the consumer. I think I'll start rationing the milk consumption here -- two of my kids will drink it before anything else.

Gas is cheaper than milk here in NW NJ

Uh, oh. I need to make a milk run today, in fact. I don't drink much of it, but, I think my kids and DH bathe in it. I had noticed it's gone up about $0.35 a gallon in past few weeks or so. Bread has gone up about $0.10 a loaf.

Besides gas our Milk, Bread, Apple Juice, Lunchmeat, Toilet Paper and Produce and Meats have all gone up.....didn't pay much attention to prices on things other then the list. We usually go through 6-8 gallons of milk a week, and I think we might have to cut back some.....

This may sound stupid. I buy vienna sausages for the kids and they are always 2/$1 at kmart. Yesterday I went to grab a few cans and noticed they had doubled to $.99 a can! I put them back, FAST!

Everything seems to be going up. Every time I go grocery shopping I notice how much prices have gone up and the sales aren't as good as they used to be either. Some things that used to go on sale for 2 for $3, now end up going on sale for 2 for $4 or 2 for $5, etc. Paper towels, toilet paper, orange juice, milk and meats (chicken, pork and beef) are the things that I notice the most as going up in price.

I know milk is going up, but it should still be cheaper that the $24 per can I am forking out for formula once every 5 days. Luckily, I only have 2 months to go with the formula.

better to ask what has NOT increased in cost!!

This is the regular price at Meijers (note, prices vary depending on the $$ in your neighborhood--not the region!!)
for Belleville Meijers --- this is a "higher end" city.

Regular price (sale price)

Milk $2.99 ($1.88)

Cheese, shr. name brand $3.99+ (3 for $5)

Ballpark Franks $3.89 (2 for $5)

*MEAT AND CHICKEN* (anything but pork) has shot way up. A few years ago, we couldn't afford Pork...so we were eating steaks and roasts! Now we can't afford beef...so we are eating pork!!

Beef Loin $13.89 lb ($8.49)

**side note... gasoline at Meijers this morning was $3.99 for regular unleaded, $4.29 for mid-grade and $4.49 for premium**
(sad when a pack of cigarettes costs LESS than a gallon of gasoline!!)

Milk and produce are up around here. We alo go through a lot of milk in our house (If there is less then 2 gallons we are getting low) so I am having the boys drink a lot more water.

Everyone is complaining about the price of milk. But no one seems to notice the price of OJ. I've been paying far more for OJ than milk for over 2 yrs. DS has severe allergies so he doesn't drink milk in the morning. DD is lactose intolerant. So it's calcium fortified OJ at our house. It just so happens that we love the almost cheapest priced OJ at Wal-Mart. Dole is $2.28 a half gallon and is the best tasting OJ we've ever had and that includes Tropicana.

I've noticed eggs and milk. I have my kids drink water instead, so I'm not that bothered by the milk increase. I haven't really went on a real grocery shopping trip in a long time. our freezer has been stocked and we eat what we have rebates for..

Milk is close to $4 here (AR), if not that already. I haven't picked up any in a few days.
1 dozen large eggs are almost $3
Gas was 3. 25 at a place I went by yesterday.

I got mine at Kroger w/ the 10 cents a gallon off deal. (buy $100 in groceries per period).
I have to get midgrade because my van is picky and screws up w/ regular I believe it was 3.31 per gallon w/o discount a few days ago.

Oh yeah, I was at the grocery store today and they had some stuff 'on sale'...can't remember right now what it was...and the savings was $.06. BIG DEAL!

Luckily for us milk is still $1.99 gal. Good thing cause I'm buying 3-4 gal a week. My oldest drinks milk all the time.

All food prices seem to be going up here where we live. I just thought about doing this since everyone was discussing milk. We drink 1% or 2%, mostly 1% since it has lower fat content. I was thinking about buying whole milk then adding water to it, would have to experiment to get to the right taste, but would make it last alot longer and would turn it into 1% or 2% with the added water, I don't think it would taste any different. I am going to try this the next time I buy milk. I have been buying more loss leaders, using more coupons and have been using more leftovers instead of throwing them away. Anything leftover get put out with the next nights meal, or the leftovers go to lunch with me or DH, since we are cutting back on fast foods right now.
