Help me pick some new perfume....please!

I have been sniffing perfume like crazy, feeling like I need one of two new scents, but after I smell one or two, I start sneezing like crazy, and then can't smell anything, so I need a little guidance. I did try smelling the coffee intween scents and then all I could think of was how bad I wanted a cup of coffee....

I'd love to know your tried and true scents with maybe a description, and how long the scent lasts

I already have

Tommy Bahama (?)
J Lo Glow
J Lo Still
Bvlgari
Bvlgari Rose
Burberry
Pink Sugar
Ralph Hot
Obsession Night
Poeme

Forgot to ask, where do you usually buy your perfume? Are there any reliable online stores?

A few of my favorites are:

Tommy Girl
Liz Claiborne Realities
j'adore (christian dior)

ETA: OP, you may want to ask for samples at the perfume counters. They usually have plenty and never mind giving them out. That way you can try it on you since some perfumes smell good on some people and not on others. And you won't be smelling too many perfumes, mixing the scents or having the sneezing fits.....and I know how that goes. I love perfume but if I smell too many or the wrong one, I start sneezing too!!

If you don't want something too strong, how about some of the Body Sprays at BBW??? You can try a small bottle for $3.50, and carry it in your purse to put on thru out the day. They are not heavy smelling at all, and come in plastic bottles. I like the "lighter" scents in the warm weather.

I really like Elizabeth Arden's Provocative Woman. They don't make my absolute favorite anymore. It is Trueste and was made by Tiffany & Co. - luckily I bought a few extra bottles on ebay when I found out they weren't making it anymore. I've never smelled it, but I've heard from lots of people that Amazing Grace by Philosophy is a great fragrance.

Amazing Grace- Philosophy......love it and I get alot of compliments...I was at the Dr a couple of weeks ago and all the girls in the office had to write down the name of it & where I bought it.....It's not strong, very mild and fresh..but I do layer it with the lotion and the hair condtioner.

Anais Anais, or Chanel #5. I usually don't wear perfum but both of these have nice light clean scents that seem to last.

Just wondering has anyone tried the BBW Eau De Toilette's? Do these scents last longer then the regular body sprays?

i like Armani Sensi, Gucci Rush 2 and Cacharel Amor Amor. I would characterize all 3 as warmer, sexier scents if that makes any sense. All 3 last the whole day on me but are not too strong. I have a hard time finding a perfurme that doesnt either disappear after it dries or be way too strong, but these 3 are good on me.

It does last with just one spray. I spray it in front of me than walk into it. I get compliments whenever I wear it. Like Jakki's perfumes it is also a sexy scent.

My mom swears by this perfume, and I never really thought of it for myself.....I've never smelled it on her, she doesn't travel with perfume anymore.....so she always wears what I have....(she had a full bottle of perfume burst in her suitcase once.....the clothes reaked!) I'll have to put this on my must smell list, my Mom would love that.....

I wear Calvin Klein's Escape perfume. Have for years, it's my absolute favorite! Dh tries to buy other stuff that just isn't me. In my area I can only find it at Bon Ton. It's kind of pricey, but the bottle lasts me a whole year.

There's got to be a website where you can type in, "If you like this kind of perfume, you'll like this kind".

Perfume is such a personal choice. I prefer: Beautiful by Estee Lauder, Poison by Christian Dior, and Pleasures by Estee Lauder.

mabear74- I have a barely used bottle of Glow that you can have (free). I used the sample in a magizine and loved it so I went out and bought the bottle. I am alergic to it. The bottle is a few years old but I have only used it a few times. PM me with your address and its yours.

I liked the Pink Sugar scent I smelled while strolling through Macy's one day. I waited a couple of weeks to go back & pick it up, low & behold, the only thing they had left was body mousse. Since I couldn't find the fragrance at any of my local stores, I resorted to the internet. The best price I found on it was at Amazon, which offers free shipping. My husband absolutely loves the scent (like cotton candy).

Just wanted to say Thank You so so so much for all the input, went out this weekend and came home with Tendre Poison and Escada. The Escada has already been confiscated by DD, and DH told me he hated the Tendre Poison.........Guess I will keep hunting. (Will just wear the Tendre Poison while DH is gone)

I asked if they had any samples while at Dilliards and the lady pretty much laughed at me....I have been trying to find Angel to smell, everywhere I went they had other versions of it, but not just the plain Angel

Try Nordstrom for samples. They have little empty vials they will fill with any scent so you can try it for a day or two before buying. My Macys has started handing out vials instead of cards for certain scents too (hthough they wont custom fill any choice)

We only have a Kohls, Penneys, Sears and Dilliards here....the lady made me feel foolish for asking....wasn't like I wasn't spending money. Guess I could check at the PX, very very rarely shop in the PX so I didn't even think of that...

Thanks for the suggestion though....appreciate it

Since we are on the subject of perfumes, does anyone remember a Gucci perfume that came in a bottle with a lid that looked like a belt buckle? I'm sorry if this is considered threadjacking, but thought someone might remember it. One of my best friends in high school used to wear it about 15 years ago and I just remember it smelling really, really good. When I look on websites now, I don't see it listed and wondered if they just remodeled the bottle it was in.

Thanks for any help.

I just got one of those magazine peel-back samples the other day called CanCan and I can't stop smelling it. This weekend I'll be going out to the mall to see if I can find it and actually try it on. It is from Paris Hilton. Also, I'm going to try Daisy if I can find it. A gal at the office got it for Xmas and it just smells amazing.

My favs:

Armani Diamonds
Estee Lauder Pleasures
Cinique Happy

OP, too bad you couldn't have purchased your new perfume before the holiday when they do the 'free gift' with purchase with just about everything! Try Belk if you have one for samples, or Sephora as they will also fill the vial with some perfume for you to try. I've always had issues with the counter ladies at Dillards with samples, I guess they keep them for themselves or something. If you find something you really like, try Macys.com. They always have special holiday bundles around Christmas that are the same price as the regular sized bottles, etc. Estee Lauder will do the 'buy a parfume get makeup for $$' deal too, great if you wear their makeup or would like to upgrade, maybe a gift for your daughter, etc. HTH.

Wanted to add that Sams Club has much better prices on most scents too, especially around the holidays when they have that huge display of perfume, some come packed two in a package for the price of one. Some of them also have several of the designer's perfumes included for one price. It's a deal really.

Holy heck !! Yep, that is it, lol. I had almost forgotten posting in this thread.

Edit to add: I wonder if they changed the packaging. When I try to look up EAU DE GUCCI on google, I see other perfume bottles, but they don't look like the one listed in ebay. If so, don't perfumes go bad after awhile?

According to a review I read, they did indeed change the packaging. It's supposed to be the same smell though. I'm not familiar with the Gucci cologne lines but I think this is the current bottle design(???):

Perfume does not go "bad" as in getting spoiled, but its scent and color will change over time. The shelf life of most designer fragrances, from production date, and if stored properly, is a maximum of 3 to 5 years - though being much less for pure perfume. The more alcohol a perfume contains, the longer the shelf life.
discount womens perfume mens cologne shelf life how long fragrance lasts

I'm not cetain but I'd venture a guess that the one on ebay has lost some potency.

Gosh I really should not have read this thread. So many great sounding perfumes. Makes me want to try all of them.
