My boys are 16 and just about 13, they each have a tv in their room and it has cable hook up. They dont really spend much time in there, usually just the 30 minutes of time between bed time and lights out. Darlene

No TV in my kids' rooms - I can understand if people use it for video games and DVD player though. I personally don't think there is a "good" age for children to have unlimited access to all that cable has to offer. In this house it's best for me to be aware of everything they're watching - just so I know what we need to have conversations about. I also have rules about how much TV, and what channels can be viewed. This way I can monitor their TV intake. |

My older 2 each have a TV in their rooms. Got them when they were 8 and 14. Neither has cable hooked up but they do have a DVD player built in. Had a small problem with DS playing his video game after bedtime hours at first but then told him if it happened again, the TV would come out. Hasn't happened since. It's really nice when they are in the mood for either horror movies(now 16 yr old dd) or cartoons(ds). I can still catch my shows and they can watch what they want and there's no arguing over what movie plays first

I have 3 girls . The oldest who is now 28 got a tv when she was 16 she bought it with her own money at a garage sale. LOL we would not allow one before that no cable only regular channels with a coke can. LOL She might have turned it on once a week. The middle child who liked tv [a lot] never got one. The youngest who is now 17 got one in her room when she was 11 [due to a chronic health condition she spent many hours in bed for a few years] She only was able to watch videos though. When her health stablized we let her have the coke can [for antena] she is not much of a tv watcher and has not even had a coke can hooked up for 3 years now. She would rather pop in a dvd.

I personally don't like kids having tvs in their rooms at all! Having said that our 16 yr old does have one but she rarely if ever uses it. My 15 and 14 yr olds want one in each of their rooms, so I told them if they could keep their room clean for a month I would allow it. So far it hasn't happened yet.
