Cool Memorial Day Weekend Speedtraps!!

The list was created from the NMA's speedtrap exchange ( http://www.speedtrap.org/ ) a site devoted to identifying the location of speed traps, according to Aaron Quinn, the communications director for the National Motorists Association.

Southeastern Michigan has two of the most patrolled areas, according to the National Motorists Association. The Detroit suburbs ranks atop the list, with Ann Arbor, Mich., ranking sixth.

Most Speed Traps
Rank City

1 Detroit, Mich. suburbs
2 Colorado Springs, Colo.
3 Houston, Texas
4 Orlando, Fla.
5 Nashville, Tenn.
6 Ann Arbor, Mich.
7 Albuquerque, N.M.
8 Washington, D.C.
9 Denver, Colo.
10 Virginia Beach, Va.

The cities were ranked by the number of speed traps posted on the Web site by the public. This year's top 10 list was compiled out of about 10,000 postings, Quinn said. He said it was the second year the group has done the list.

Now... when I lived in Virginia Beach, there was a shopping center on Laskin Rd near Birdneck Rd...the "posted" speed limit was 4 1/2!!

HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING 4.5 IF YOU DON'T HAVE A DIGITAL DASH??

I don't understand why people just don't slow down. If you drove the speed limit, you wouldn't need to know about speed traps, no?

But yeah, 4.5 is a bit ridiculous. I've seen 5 MPH and wondered just HOW?

True I dont understand either, I'd feel safer if there wasnt sites like that so next time the doofus going 100+ on the interstate will hopefully get caught sooner than before they kill someone

Or someone like my sister's ex, who has been caught speeding at least 20 times in the past two years but plea bargains the tickets to non-moving violations. He gets caught but loopholes in the system allow him not only to keep driving BUT also with lower insurance rates because non-moving violations don't cost points on your operator license.

Please, just slow down, people!

I love the fact that that website exists, because (especially for my area)...5 miles over is 'traditional' and there really ARE police agencies that like to give tickets for a 'quota'.

Not often, but there are times I am running late... better to know where NOT to go 1 mile over the limit than to pay out huge fines plus get points on your license.

(and yeah, some will write a huge ticket for 1 mile over...it's the points that really kill ya though).
