Rosie not coming back to "The View"

this was on tmz.com

ABC has just announced that Rosie O'Donnell will not be back on "The View."

Brian Frons, President of ABC Daytime, issued the following statement:
"We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to 'The View' and wish her well."

Barbara Walters said "I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at "The View." I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."

For her part, Rosie said "I'm extremely grateful. It's been an amazing year and I love all three women."

Rosie has a video called True Colors on her website. A song by Cyndi Lauper is playing Sisters of Avalon.

I think the whole thing is very sick and sad. So much for people sharing their views on "The View".

I don't know if shes hurt, as opposed to how much shes hurt her career NOT by having the position she has, but the way she has presented it. I am telling you guys, You get more flies with honey! Why do you think peaceful men like Martin Luther King and Medger Evers had such an impact on this world? They were angry (had every right to be) and passionate but, they didn't let their anger at the situation affect their passion for the resolvement.

Yep, I saw that this morning and something told me that was the meaning of the video.

You know.. I'd agree with you *IF* she let other people have their views, but she really kind of dismissed people who didn't feel the way she did. I don't know how many times I saw her treat a guest poorly because of her views. Case in point.. I don't know if any of you watched big brother all stars, but after Mike won and was on The View she was totally ugly to him because of his situation with Erika. I think that as a talk show personality you need to be objective and she didn't have that. I'm glad she's gone.

I'm not surprised. I'm sure it's difficult and awkward to have to go back and be on there, for everyone. I think Rosie wanted the show as her own, and that just was NOT going to happen, thankfully. She was good on her show, but on the View, she is just too much, at times.

I'm sure they'll find someone else to take that spot, and life will go on, as it always does.

This was a strange way to go out - Rosie is a strong woman - she could have at least ended her reign there with some class.

She could have taken the high road, come back on, tried to stay respectful of other people's opinions...heck - she could have even made peace privately with Elisabeth, and made an agreement to stay off that heated topic through the remaining 3 weeks.

It isn't being a good team player to do what she's doing. The bully got a little of it back, and she took her ball and went home - that is my "VIEW" of it.

The more I think about it, she is really leaving Barbara Walters in the lurch here. Now, she has to scramble to find a replacement/fill-in for the three weeks that Rosie should have been there.

BTW, I didn't catch the entire show today, but, Rosie and Elisabeth were at least civil towards one another. I know this was not a live show, but, I'm sure it was filmed after the May 23rd episode.

This was in poor taste for Rosie, if she is just leaving like this.

I wish Rosie would have stayed for the 3 weeks. I would have liked to see it worked out better - for all of the people involved. Will Joy or Elizabeth be afraid to open their mouth now?

To see the True Colors video, Rosie's blog is at : r blog

I wrote ABC and Barbara W to express my concern that people couldn't really share their views on the View. There does seem to be a nasty problem behind the scenes at this show.

Yes, maybe Rosie could have caught more flies with honey. I agree. I also agree that she came on too strong at times. She was willing to put it all out there though, and I will miss her. I think her career is just fine. She's past needing money and she has enough of a following for this not to be a problem. She obviously supported the troops, she did not support the reasons behind the war. They are two different things.

I will also no longer watch the View or anything with Barbara Walters has a hand in. I think she is a big dictator and is the main problem with this show. You can't build a following on a show and then suddenly yank them off at Barbara's whim.

The View is basically a piece of fluff show. Every show was starting out with politics and you could tell a problem was coming. It was getting more and more heated. Perhaps they should have just did one hour show on politics with experts on both sides coming in to talk. How can they talk about politics at all after this? Joy started the talk out that day with a long list of Al Gore's book stuff. No one will be able to talk about politics, religion or any other hot topics.

The rest of the view after the hot topics, tended to be a commerical for other ABC shows.

I agree. That stinks - particularly for the clearing the air reason. Perhaps R will come back as a guest to do just that. At least she said she loves "all three" women in her statement.

I honestly believe Rosie has some mental problems. I'm not being mean -- I honestly believe it. If you will look at her lately -- her face is 'drawn' and her eyes look horrible like she doesn't sleep at all. She doesn't smile. I know she suffers from depression. I honestly don't see how someone who used to be labeled 'The Queen of Nice' has now turned into a vile, hate-spewing, bully who says some of the dumbest things on national TV and other places. There's got to be something behind all of it. And now she's quit (or was quietly let go) The View three weeks before she's supposed to leave because of an altercation with Elisabeth? This may have been her mental breakdown in full force. I hope she gets the help she certainly needs.

I am thrilled....I think she can dish it out but she cant take it........I never watch the show because the only person I like is Elizabeth....but I did read about the confontation...Tickles me rosie's face wont be on the news every night spewing her ignorance....Seems like every time I set down to watch tv I see a clip of what she said on the view that day!!!! She wanted to have her say, but she didnt want anyone else to state their opinion....I think Elizabeth did a great job coming back at her and now the poor baby wont come on the show anymore...Maybe she saw the replay and realized what a fool she makes of herself everyday!!!! They will be fine, I'm sure. They were looking for replacements anyway and I think this speeds it up a bit. I'm sure it will all work itself out.
I also agree that she should have stayed for the remaining duration of her contract. But there is some part of me that wonders if she was really pushed out? Like maybe things were too uncomfortable for everyone and Barbara asked her to leave? I know, I know, maybe a longshot but I just don't trust everything said after the Star Jones thing.

Yes today's show was really nice. As was yesterday's show (she had taken the day off). Which is why I don't feel there will be a big problem. There seems to be a lot of people willing to fill in at a moments notice (i.e. Kathy Griffith or Sherri).

Isn't it ironic that when Elisabeth finally stands up to the Rosie, the bully, she doesn't come back!!!!!! I think that says it all. Bullys cower when they can't bully someone anymore. Perfect example!!!!

I agree.

And I don't believe for one minute that "leaving early" was Rosie's idea: she simply went too far this time. I think that ABC had simply had enough.

MSNBC is reporting the same thing including a Rosie quote to leave early.

TBH I could never stand the big mouth, so maybe now I will start watching the show. Rosie just grates on my last nerve.

I don't think that Rosie (by leaving the show) left Barbara Walters in the lurch. May is sweeps month, and this sure brought the View into the spotlight. Otherwise it's just another ho-hum show.

As a talk show host she has a right to give her view of things and she is not the only one who doesn`t let people talk, the whole show is that way. I like her and I won`t watch the show any more. It will be boring. Now who is everybody going to pick on. They don~t have Rosie anymore.

It was one of the most boring shows on tv before Rosie joined the show. Now that she's leaving, it's going to get dull again. Unless they can find someone equally entertaining as her replacement, I'm done with the show. And judging from the people they've had fill in lately, it's just not going to happen.

I think that alot of this sort of "celebrity" fighting is staged. I don't know about this one but I think it could be possible.

But it isn't like they ran promos that there was going to be a fight, so there was no additional audience.

I'd be interested in Merediths view -she would have some insight.

I've heard Whoppie Goldberg and Gayle King as replacements.

---------------

But even if people didn't tune in to the show that day, it brought attention to the View. I think a lot of advertisers would like that.

I really don't care for Whoopie. She's been good in some of her movies such as Ghost. Gayle King -- whenever she is on Oprah, I usually shut Oprah off. They were funny on their road trip at times, but overall I feel her claim to fame is being Oprah's best friend. She just doesn't have that special celebrity thing. Oprah gave her a radio show too, I think. Oprah's been a good friend to her.

On CNN someone was speculating this morning that CBS and Rosie have a $20 million deal in the works. It's unconfirmed though~

Gayle King used to be our local TV station's evening news anchor. She was here for at least a decade - not the most interesting person - I didn't even think she was that highly regarded as a news person. Once it became known that Oprah was her best friend, well then people became more interested. She did try to have a daytime talk show in the late nineties - it was dull, and didn't last long.

My point was that she could express her views without being a B*^#@ about it. The other hosts don't have as much of a problem doing that.

I stopped watching because of her.
