How much TV do you watch on average?

How much TV do you watch on an average day?

And if you choose to post a response, I'm curious about your views and habits with respect to TV - do you watch alone, with family, wish you had more time for TV, have it on for background noise, TiVo your favorite shows, favorite channels, shows, etc - whatever might be of interest.

I will admit that I thought about this topic because I read posts about TV shows that I've never even heard of.

I usally have it on CNN for the most part of the day. I also will watch HSN and QVC if something comes on I want I will go to Freeride and order.

We records most of our shows at night so we can fast forward it thru the ads. The shows only I like, will be watched when dh is at work. He watches his taped shows when I am in bed or he tapes it in our bedroom and watches them while he is getting ready for work.

Seeing as I've been home from work ill for the past 4 months almost, I always pretty much have the TV on, but it is mostly for background noise. I do TIVO the shows I do not want to miss if I'm napping, but it's only a few..The Sopranos, Little People on TLC. The occassional special or movie, and I was doing Tori & Dean until the season ended.

In he morning I've been having on Regis, and Rachael Ray, and The View, but don't always pay attention.

Never on during the daytime except if the kids are watching. They watch about the same as me; an hour or two a day. I watch a few shows in the evening but often read a book instead. There are only a few shows that my DH and I like to watch together -- he's a big sports nut and I am not.

I never watch the news.

Now, time spent on the internet? I can't quantify that and I know that it is probably too much but it really helps me to relax.

For me, I am gone at least 10 to 10½ hours per day. It just depends on if there is anything on after work that I like to watch. Sometimes we will tape shows in order to just skip through the commercials like another person said. It is amazing how you can cut down on the amount of time spent watching your favorite show just by eliminating the commercials.

Sometimes I will watch about 2 hours in the evening and then get on the computer or go to bed.

Almost never. I just dont like anything currently on TV. If something important happens, I will turn on the news. Other than that, I will occasionally watch junk TV like America's Next Top Model or Project Runway while browsing the internet. I cannot just watch tv though, it just doesnt hold my attention. I have to be doing something else at the same time if I'm going to watch.

Arrow I am probably in the minority

I am probably in the minority pool on this one. I have the TV going from the time my feet hit the floor in the morning, til I go to bed. I have certain shows that I watch all day everyday, EVEN if they are re-runs.

I love TV. BUT I do know what's fact and fiction...I am not like some tv junkies. I rarely listen to the radio, other than driving in the car. I live for TV!

I love my soaps! I love my court shows! I love it! Tv in living room, tv in kitchen, tv in bathroom, I love some TELEVISION !

So, other than about the 6 or 7 hours I sleep my TV watching is probably 18 hours or so daily !

Now, my kids will watch wrestling and very rarely cartoons, but they would prefer to entertain themselves verses sit still and watch TV.

I don't watch anything until at least 8:00, then I might watch 1 or 2 shows, Survivor, Lost, ER something like that and it's always alone since DH goes to bed around 8:30.

DH watches almost no tv, only on the weekends.

The kids watch about 30 minutes before school and then maybe an hour at night if we don't have baseball. On the weekends we do watch a little more, they are watching a movie now, we just came in from being outside all morning and they are hot and tired.

Turned off our cable months ago, don't miss it at all. We will watch a movie or two every couple of months, and I sometimes watch stuff on YouTube, but mostly I surf, work on a couple sites, and game.

It averages out to about 1-2 hours a day IF THAT.... Like Thursday Nights I watch a few shows, but nothing really on the other days. I may watch a movie or 2 during the week also. WE really dont watch tv all that much, though I do have it on as background noise during the day, usually playing a news channel.

Now that Summer is here I rarely watch. Everything is repeats, anyway I do use the DVR to record some shows and watch them late at night when DS and DH are sleeping! I never have the tv on during the day - I prefer to do other things. If DH is home then the tv is on ALL day long - even though he rarely watches it! I would have to say that my husband watches more tv than I do, but I am the one who almost exclusively records with the DVR!

We do not watch the news. Too violent - too crime-ridden . . .

I am a reality junkie! Hubby likes to watch the History Channel/Discovery Channel/TLC. Thank God he doesn't watch ANY sports or I would go crazy !!!!!!!!!

I genuinely watch less than one hour of TV daily. Many days, I don't even turn on the TV. I just don't enjoy it.

DH and DD on the other hand, LOL, would have it on 24/7 if I'd let them!

Not much.I watch the news once in a while and maybe an hour or more if bf has it turned on to something interesting. But usually I don't watch it unless theres a new Lifetime or Sci-fi movie on.Lately there are just too many repeats.

This describes me. I do turn on a Lifetime movie every now and then....and my kids will tell me I already saw it....but since I never actually sit down and watch, I only recall bits and pieces. For me, it's less than an hour a day. Course, I work outside the home and am gone 10+ hours a day and then have all the kids and house stuff to do too, so it's not like I have much time for the tube. However, I don't think I'm missing much of value.

I watch over eight hours a day when I am home. When I am at work I DVR my shows then if I am home on the weekend or up really early I watch the ones I missed.

I have my tv on in the background most of the time. That comes from being a very social person and spending a lot of time home alone.

In my case I don't think it dumbed me up any. I think much of what I watch broadens my horizons by exposing me to things I would not have otherwise experienced. But then my Mom taught us the difference between reality and tv reality and she taught us to be discriminating about what we were told as far as what to buy, styles, ideas of what is moral, beautiful. good, etc. I come from a long line of independent thinkers.

I taught my son to be the same way when it comes to advertising, ideas about things.

I enjoy tv but I feel sorry for peole who "buy into" the media's idea of what is good, bad, right, wrong, etc.

I also know there are some people who believe what they see on tv. They write letters to soap opera and sitcom characters as if they are real. Sad.

I find our TV setup confusing, so I only watch TV if someone else is around. Mostly, my husband and I end up watching Cops (it's always one at least one channel, and we work graves), MXC (strange enough to be good), or Mythbusters (his choice, I'm neutral). Last week I got the VCR to work and did watch a bunch of episodes of a ghost show m mm had taped for me. I will also watch my husband play some video games, and tell him what he's missed. It's good while folding laundry. I do spend at least ten hours on work days online (it's my job!) so it's not like I'm missing out on bad media, and staring at screens!

I watch a lot. I'm addicted to home improvement and decorating shows. I've received great ideas and inspiration from watching them.

I also watch a few sitcom comedies, court shows, and a couple of reality shows.

I love my Tv.......During the morning hours I usually have no kids shows, then afternoon we try and turn it off for a few hours, and when it comes back on its usually to CMT or GAC. Then in the evening we usually try to watch something we all can watch, like AI, Amercias Funniest Videos, Deal or No Deal ( my kids love this) or a Movie. Once the kids head of to bed DH and I tend to watch the news. We do not watch this when the kids are around, especially with deployment looming over our heads. I save most of the shows I watch and watch them when I'm hope with my Autistic son at night, or watch them after DH goes to bed and I need time to just unwind....I usually record, all the CSI's, Criminal Minds, Bones, House,Heroes,ER, Survivor, Amazing Race, AI, Crossing Jordan, Medium, the Closer.....I know there are others but can't seem to think of them right now.......

If I was home I would watch more. When I am home so are the kids and it's dinner, clean up, homework, bath... so basically I get to watch with the kids for an hour before they go to bed. It's a good thing I love Sponge Bob! I can't talk with anyone at work about what's on TV, I feel pretty unhip!
